Discovery en Espanol To Premiere 'Instinto Asesino' ('Killer Instinct')

A series that explores the most hair-raising crimes that shook Latin America

MIAMI, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- On April 6, 2010, Discovery en Espanol will premiere an original series Instinto asesino. This hair-raising special, made up of six episodes, analyzes some of the most heinous Latin American criminals and their bloody deeds and delves into the investigations that led to their eventual exposure and capture. Instinto asesino will air on Tuesdays at 10 PM E/11PM P.

Each episode focuses on an individual serial killer. Via news reports, dramatizations, exclusive interviews with witnesses, surviving victims, forensic scientists and investigators, each episode retraces step by step some of the most bloodcurdling crimes ever committed in Latin America. The series contains the famous cases of Juana Barraza of Mexico, alias Mataviejitas (Old Lady Killer), the Colombian Manuel Octavio Bermudez, "el Monstruo de los Canaduzales" (Monster of the Sugar Cane Fields), and the Brazilian Francisco de Assis Pereira, better known as "el Maniaco del Parque" (The Maniac in the Park), among others.

Instinto asesino does not only delve into the dark side of these homicidal horrors, but also leads viewers to think by raising some interesting questions such as: What could possibly lead a human being to committing such atrocious acts? Is this a result of a physical or physiological pathology? Can taking measures at childhood help to prevent some of these terrible crimes?

Filled with suspense and forensic revelations, the series diligently dissects and analyzes the behavior of these killers, the elements involved in each act and the relevant circumstances that allowed for final resolution.

"Instinto asesino" is an original production of Discovery en Espanol under the direction of Michela Giorelli and Rafael Rodriguez, with the support of the Argentinean production house Endemol, under the direction of Raul Slonimsky.

Episode description and air dates continue:

Ep. 1 El Monstruo de los Canaduzales - (The Monster of the Sugar Cane Fields - Colombia) - Tuesday, April 6 at 10 PM E/11PM P

In the city of Cali, Colombia an assassin and child rapist that abandons the bodies of his victims in the sugar cane fields plants terror in the population while evading authorities. Then, surprise testimony reveals important clues that lead investigators to Manuel Octavio Bermudez, a completely unexpected suspect.

Ep. 2 La Mataviejitas (Old Lady Killer - Mexico) - Tuesday, April 13 at 10 PM E/11PM P

The bodies of old women begin to emerge as victims of violent murders in their own homes. All of the bodies show clear signs of strangulation. Some corroborating witnesses assure having seen a woman dressed in a nurse's uniform in the vicinity of many of these crimes.

Ep. 3 El Maniaco del Parque (The Maniac in the Park - Brazil) - Tuesday, April 20 at 10 PM E/11PM P

The case of Francisco de Assis Pereira appears as one of the worst psychopathic cases in Brazil's police records. In one year's time, 1997 to 1998, he assassinated 11 women after having first raped them in the city park in Sao Paulo. After an intense manhunt of 23 days the authorities were finally able to apprehend the deadly assailant putting an end to his sinister crime spree.

Ep. 4 Masacre escolar (The School Massacre - Argentina) - Tuesday, April 27 at 10 PM E/11PM P

On September 28th, 2004 a 15 year old boy known as "Junior" entered his classroom at the School Islas Malvinas in a province of Buenos Aires and aimed a loaded gun towards his classmates. This case, often compared to the Columbine massacre in the U.S., left three dead and five wounded and is the only crime of this type ever chronicled in Latin America.

Ep. 5 El Padrino (The Godfather - Mexico) - Tuesday, May 4 at 10 PM E/11PM P

In 1989, the discovery of a series of brutal killings committed throughout the Mexican state of Tamaulipas astonished the world. These formed part of blood-filled rituals performed by a cult that sought to obtain supernatural protection for some leading Mexican narcotics dealers. The press headlined them as "los Narcosatanicos" (The Narco-Satanists) and the Federal authorities in Mexico and the U.S. began an intensive manhunt.

Ep. 6 El Vampiro de Niteroi (The Vampire of Niteroi - Brazil) - Tuesday, May 11 at 10 PM E/11PM P

During the early 90's, the bodies of numerous deceased children began to appear on the streets of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Who was the savage serial killer that drank the blood of his victims and acted with total impunity?
