Coen Brothers and Soderbergh to produce films at College of Santa Fe's Garson Studios
SANTA FE, N.M., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Two major feature films are scheduled for production at the College of Santa Fe's Garson Studios early this year. The films, by Joel and Ethan Coen and Steven Soderbergh, will join the ranks of several other major films shot at Garson Studios.
The Coen brothers, whose Academy Award-winning film "No Country for Old Men" was shot at Garson Studios, will be returning to Garson on February 24 to film "True Grit." The new film, currently scheduled for release in December, will star Oscar nominees Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin.
Soderbergh--whose films include "Ocean's Eleven," "Erin Brockovich," and "The Informant!"-- is shooting his next film, "Knockout," in Spain and Ireland. In the spring, the production will move to New Mexico, where it will utilize Garson Studios. "Knockout," from Relativity Media and Lionsgate, is scheduled for release in 2011. The film's stars include Gina Carano, Michael Douglas, Ewan McGregor and Channing Tatum.
"Over 40 films have been made at Garson; several are Academy Award winners," said Paula Amanda, director of Garson Studios. "We are now contracted until May and are actively seeking productions to round out this exciting year."
Garson Studios (www.garsonstudios.com) is a 65,000-square-foot soundstage facility funded in 1989 by film legend Greer Garson to answer the growing demand for state-of-the-art working soundstages in New Mexico. Student interns from the College of Santa Fe's Moving Images Arts department assist on film projects at the studios.
