College of Santa Fe's Garson Studios Names New Director

Paula Amanda continues tradition of serving film industry on college campus

SANTA FE, N.M., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The College of Santa Fe has named Paula Amanda director of Garson Studios, a 65,000-square-foot soundstage facility on the college campus. Garson Studios serves the film industry in northern New Mexico and Santa Fe, and is the only professional movie studio on a U.S. college campus.

Since 2006, Amanda has been responsible for the daily operation and security of the Garson Studios soundstages during production, and she has stage-managed multiple features, including "Legion," North Country," "Brothers" and "The Sunset Limited." Amanda is also the president and founder of the New West Media Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that integrates documentary film with the educational system. She has worked in the film industry as a location scout, production coordinator and producer.

"Garson has been serving the film industry for more than 20 years," said Amanda. "We are well known in the film-making community. The films 'No Country for Old Men,' 'The Missing,' 'City Slickers' and 'All the Pretty Horses,' as well as made-for-television broadcasts and commercials, were filmed at Garson."

Garson Studios (www.garsonstudios.com) was funded in 1989 by film legend Greer Garson to answer the growing demand for state-of-the-art working soundstages in New Mexico. The studio includes a 3,000-square-foot production space, a 14,000-square-foot stage A and a 7,000-square-foot stage B. Facilities also include an additional 3,000-square-foot production studio. Student interns from the College of Santa Fe's Moving Images Arts department assist on film projects at the studios.

As a member of Laureate International Universities, the College of Santa Fe offers a local focus while benefitting from the international perspective of the worldwide Laureate network. "Laureate Education and the city of Santa Fe are strongly supportive of Garson Studios and its important place in the local economic and educational communities," Amanda said. "Expect some great things in the near future on the property."

Prior to her film career, Amanda was a business and environmental attorney. She holds a B.A. from UCLA, a J.D. from the University of Santa Clara Law School, and a B.F.A. in Moving Image Arts from the College of Santa Fe, where she was presented with the Presidential Academic Achievement Award for 2006.
