Singer / Songwriter Creates Video to Save Friend's Life

Singer / Songwriter Creates Video to Save Friend's Life

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- For singer / songwriter Lisa Nemzo the tragic story of her long time friend and lyricist Artie Colatrella, who is dying of cancer, uncovered a healthcare madness that made her head spin.

Nemzo thinks our current healthcare system is broken and out of control. "Even a basic timely check up could have prevented this. The treatment that could have helped arrest Artie's cancer just didn't reach him in time. Artie's Story is not unique. This is happening to people every day and it is unforgivable."

The hospital misplaced his medical records for six months. He went without care for his deadly renal cancer because of a lost file. Frustrated by the denial of care, Lisa decided to do something about it, and be that one person that made a difference. She organized a benefit concert for Artie, who is unable to work and hasn't the resources for support, nutrition, medication or assistance. The cancer was ravaging his body and he was unable to receive treatment. Lisa called a Nashville friend, Dr. Mace Rothenberg. Dr. Rothenberg was able to get Artie on a program for terminally ill patients to extend his life.

The genesis of Artie's Story began with Lisa's earlier recording of Baby Don't Hurt Me, where in the introduction to the song, Lisa talked about Artie and how the song had been co-written by them. The song began to take on a life of its own as people were donating money saying they had come to know Artie solely from the introduction to Baby Don't Hurt Me. "It was as if the song took ownership of Artie's cancer and was telling us to do something with it," says Lisa.

Lisa recruited a film crew, who donated their time and equipment, to create a video of Artie's Story and Baby Don't Hurt Me. Lisa posted the video to her website and Youtube. Her plea is for everyone to view the site, and donate to assist Artie with his health care and living expenses for the remainder of his life.
