H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation Gives $300,000 Through KPSP Local 2 Coachella Valley Spotlight

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., Dec. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Through a partnership with KPSP Local 2, the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation presented 12 non-profit organizations with a total of $300,000 in 2009. Each recipient honored with the "Coachella Valley Spotlight" received a $25,000 grant plus extensive media coverage on the Palm Springs CBS affiliate.

Each month non-profits dedicated to improving the lives of people, especially children, were featured on KPSP Local 2's community program, Eye on the Desert, KPSP Local 2 news broadcasts and on www.kpsplocal2.com. In addition, each organization was profiled through ongoing public service announcements on KPSP Local 2.

"The Coachella Valley Spotlight allows us to give deserving charities valuable media exposure," said Don Perry, KPSP Local 2 Vice President and General Manager. "Plus, the generous grant from the Berger Foundation allows recipients to continue their often lofty missions that are truly changing lives in our area."

The first 12 recipients were: Western Coachella Valley Police Activities League Family YMCA of the Desert FIND Food Bank Martha's Village and Kitchen Children's Discovery Museum of the Desert Christopher's Clubhouse Shelter from the Storm Pegasus Riding Academy The Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City Olive Crest Well in the Desert Stroke Recovery Center

"The opportunity to provide these worthy organizations with funding plus needed community exposure is something we could only do with the valued partnership we established with KPSP Local 2," said Ron Auen, President and Chief Executive Officer of the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation. "Encouraging further support from the community through outreach and education about the honorees is something that will continue to serve each organization and encourage our mission, which is to 'help people help themselves.'"

The Coachella Valley Spotlight will continue with the same format in 2010. Already the 12 organizations have been selected out of more than 100 applicants. In January the Mourning Star Center, which provides support to grieving children after the loss of a parent or sibling, will be presented this deserving honor.
