The Anthology, The Very Best of Nazareth in a Newly Remastered 2-CD Set with 38 Career-Spanning Recordings

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Hailing from the highlands of Scotland, Nazareth began as a four-piece band in the late 1960s. The Anthology (AM&/UMe), released today, October 20, 2009, collects the highlights and collectibles from Nazareth's earliest days through their evolution, lasting well into their 40th anniversary of recording, all on 38 tracks in this 2-CD set.

Best-known for creating several solid classic-rock staples, they found pop chart success in the U.S. by taking the opposite approach with a timeless ballad. "Love Hurts" was a runaway success for the group. A cover version of an Everly Brothers' early 1960 recording, more than a decade later Nazareth hit the Top 10 and remained on the charts for 23 weeks. Counterbalanced by the edgier "Hair of the Dog," whose chorus offers an anthem-like sing-along, "now you're messin' with a son of a bitch," they carved a niche for themselves on the FM dial that still resonates on AOR and classic-rock stations to this day.

Along with lead vocalist Dan McCafferty's unique vocal interpretations and solid musical covers, like their thundering version of Joni Mitchell's "This Flight Tonight," Little Feat's "Teenage Nervous Breakdown" and the Stones' plaintive "Ruby Tuesday," the band also created other memorable and identifiable gems of their own. Whether it was their rock mandate to "Razamanaz" you, always "Go Down Fighting" or take a "Holiday," their versatility and commitment to a hardworking ethic--on stage and in the studio--has never faltered. And this collection definitely proves it!
