30th Anniversary Season of This Old House & Season 8 of Ask This Old House Premiere on PBS Thursday, October 8, 2009
BOSTON, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- It's been three decades since This Old House first began giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the secrets of home renovation. In honor of its 30th anniversary, producers of the Emmy-winning television series have selected two projects in the Boston area, where the show is based, to get the remodeling treatment.

The first project of the season focuses on the modest renovation of a 1915 Dutch Colonial in the Boston suburb of Newton Centre. Homeowners Bill and Gillian Pierce purchased the property in 2004 largely because of its convenient location to the heart of town and its appealing period details. Though they knew the tired home would need some freshening up and a floor plan more suitable for their family of four, the changes weren't financially feasible right away. Instead, the couple wisely spent the last few years saving money and preparing for this renovation.
Now, with the help of the This Old House crew, the family is adding 330-sq.-ft. over two floors and updated amenities that are respectful of the existing house's character. With a number of areas to address and a fixed budget, the family may face tough decisions along the way in order to stay on target. Tune in to find out whether the Pierce's can ultimately afford to do everything on their wish list.
Episodes later in the 30th anniversary season will follow the renovation of a foreclosed and vacant 1870s-era Second Empire in Roxbury, an urban neighborhood of Boston.
And on this season of Ask This Old House, the experts are once again traveling the country to help puzzled homeowners tackle common household problems. The crew is making House calls in Baltimore, Detroit, Tampa and Houston while continuing to help people near the show's home base of Boston, and the entire New England region, find solutions to their DIY problems.
The This Old House Newton Centre project and season eight of Ask This Old House premiere nationally on PBS beginning Thursday, October 8, 2009 (check www.thisoldhouse.com/tvschedule or your local listings).
