Six-time Academy Award(R) Winning Special Makeup Effects Artist, Rick Baker, to Accept 'Chiller-Eyegore Award' at Universal Studios Hollywood(SM) as Theme Park Celebrates Opening Night of 'Halloween Horror Nights(R)' on October 2
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Six-time Academy Award-winning special makeup effects artist, Rick Baker, will accept a Chiller-Eyegore Award at Universal Studios Hollywood's opening night ceremony for the theme park's "Halloween Horror Nights" event on Friday, October 2 at 7:00pm.
Baker will be honored for his incomparable design and his makeup effects that have created indelible imagery in over 42 horror films.
Most recently, Baker worked on Universal Pictures' "The Wolfman" alongside Director Joe Johnston ("Jurassic Park III") and Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro in which he transforms Del Toro into the fearsome title character. The film opens nationwide on February 12, 2010.
Baker won an Academy Award for his work on "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas," "Men In Black," "The Nutty Professor," "Ed Wood," "Harry and the Hendersons" and "An American Werewolf in London." Additionally, Baker received Academy Award nominations for "Norbit," "Life," "Mighty Joe Young," "Coming to America" and "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan." His creative make-up artistry can also be seen in such films as "Planet of The Apes," "Wild, Wild West," "Life,"The Devil's Advocate," "Wolf," "The Rocketeer," "Gremlins 2: The New Batch," "Gorillas in the Mist," "Starman" and "Star Wars" (cantina sequence). His many television credits include "Harry and the Hendersons," "Something is Out There," "Beauty and the Beast," "Werewolf, "Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and "Captain Eo" and "The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman," for which he received an Emmy Award .
This year, Universal Studios Hollywood is partnering with Chiller in the presentation of the newly expanded Chiller-Eyegore Awards, which will be broadcast as interstitial programming on Chiller later in October and hosted by actor Corey Feldman. The Chiller-Eyegore Awards will acknowledge actors, artists and filmmakers in a variety of categories specific to the horror genre.
Previous Eyegore Award recipients have included Alice Cooper, Patricia Arquette, Janet Leigh, Roger Corman, Jennifer Tilly, Joss Whedon, Rob Zombie, Karen Black, Clive Barker, Julie Benz, Shawnee Smith, Sherri Moon Zombie, Tobe Hooper, Bill Moseley and Corey Feldman.
Chiller and Universal Studios Hollywood have also partnered to sponsor the "Halloween Horror Nights-Chiller Scary Good Film Competition," offering filmmakers an opportunity to have their scariest short film rewarded with a broadcast on Chiller of their work, a $1,000 cash prize and a trip for two to opening night of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, where the film will be shown at the Chiller Eyegore Awards ceremony. This year's all-new "Halloween Horror Nights" at Universal Studios Hollywood will feature four new maze experiences including "Saw: Game Over," "Halloween: The Life and Crimes of Michael Myers," "My Bloody Valentine: Be Mine 4 Ever," and "Chucky's Funhouse," six new "scare zones," a new live stage performance of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show: A Tribute," as well as a fully re-imagined "Terror Tram" backlot studio experience. The all-new "Halloween Horror Nights" for 2009 will be the most intense and terrifying "live" horror event ever to be presented in a theme park environment.
"Halloween Horror Nights" will continue on consecutive weekends and selected weekday nights beginning on Friday, October 2 through Halloween, Saturday, October 31. Event dates are: October 2-3, 9-11, 15-18, 23-25, 28-31. The event will begin nightly at 7:00 p.m.; closing hours vary by night throughout the event.
