ACT ON 8 Announces a Commitment of a New Kind at the Clinton Global Initiative

NEW YORK, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the youngest CGI members announced a commitment of a new kind at the CGI this week: the first platform for social contributions to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The ACT ON 8 platform operates around an action cycle which includes awareness (campaigns), information (MDG status, news and updates), action (contributions to the on-field projects) and monitoring (measurement of the impact and feedback). Adam Said, 25 this month, says he started supporting the ACT ON 8 platform after many individuals attending Development related conferences, forums and festivals reported they were lacking the means to contribute at their level. He also remembered Kofi Annan's words: "It is not in the United Nations that the MDGs will be achieved. They have to be achieved in each of its Member States, by the joint efforts of their governments and people." (Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary-General).

ACT ON 8 Foundation is a non-profit organization with a unique free platform which promotes the efforts made towards the MDGs, and offers comprehensive means to partner and contribute. Everyone can join this global MDG community and pick from a basket of contribution opportunities while the platform does the matchmaking. Individuals can make all-size donations, volunteer on-field and build social communities. NGO's and governmental agencies can propose their projects and share their stories. Corporations can concentrate their humanitarian efforts on 1 global vision through 8 causes -- and these are just some of the ways people can use the platform. By joining, members can not only contribute, but also vote for projects that need support and put them on top of the priority list. All on-field projects are monitored and the results are accounted for. The platform centralizes MDG-related information and highlights the most inspiring achievements.

The first awareness campaign of ACT ON 8 is the feature film '8'. This was Adam Said's commitment at last year's CGI session as his investment group (ACE & Group) injected more than EUR 1 million for the production of the feature. As a collection of eight short films directed by Gus Van Sant, Wim Wenders, Jane Campion or Gael Garcia Bernal amongst others, '8' was awarded at the Cannes Film Festival and the Cinema for Peace in Berlin and is currently following a circuit of more than 100 international film festivals. The film is now to be released online for free by February 2010.

ACT ON 8 is now developing its next campaign, an exhibition of high end photo artwork taken from on-field projects that were launched through the platform. In addition to that, the foundation organizes events and conferences with key experts and decision makers to acquaint the general public with the MDGs and development matters at large. Next events include a conference in Geneva and a gala in New York prior 2010.
