Film to Hit Festivals in Spring 2009
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Smart, hip, funny and moving, ROCK PROPHECIES is a backstage pass into the eccentric world of rock 'n roll from the vantage point of an obsessed photographer. Barely 18, Robert M. Knight befriended and captured Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin well before they became iconic. Years later, he snapped the controversial final photograph of Stevie Ray Vaughan. During photo assignments, mysteries about the creative process are explored as Knight revisits his life long guitar heroes such as SLASH, Santana, and Jeff Beck. In the end, Knight relives his past when he discovers and mentors a new guitar prodigy that unravels the meaning behind his final and foreshadowing conversation with Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Framed by director John Chester's natural storytelling, the movie chronicles real-life events in a unique cinematic experience that transcends the documentary format. Among the things that set the film apart is that in a career spanning five decades, Knight has forged lasting friendships with his famous subjects, many of whom play active roles in the story. Knight well understands that a rock photographer is only as good as his access, and that being there at the right time and place can become the stuff of legend.
ROCK PROPHECIES was directed by John Chester (Lost In Woonsocket, A&E's Random 1) and executive produced by Emmy/Golden Globe winner Tim Kaiser (Seinfeld, Will & Grace). Bruce Friedman, Andrew J. Funnell, and Sandy Deeley join Kaiser and Chester as Executive Producers. The film was shot at multiple locations across the U.S. and England, wrapping in Los Angeles, CA, home base for production company RockDoc LLC.
Producer Kaiser has called Knight, "the Forrest Gump of rock 'n roll," because of his recurring knack for stumbling onto watershed moments in rock history. "A lot of people take great pictures," says Kaiser, "but Robert really captures historic moments."
Director/executive producer Chester adds, "In the past Knight took pride in shooting them first. Now in his late 50's, Knight wonders if he's lost his touch for surfacing the legends. This film explores his journey to find both himself and the world's next great guitar player. The audience will not be disappointed."
Artists who appear are Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, SLASH, Steve Vai, Billy Gibbons, Def Leppard, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Joe Bonamassa, The Answer, Sick Puppies, Scott McKeon, Panic at the Disco, Rick Nielson, John 5 and Tyler Dow Bryant. These artists and more are all represented in Knight's body of work, which encompasses one of the largest music-centric photographic archives in the world, most of which is unseen.
ROCK PROPHECIES will be hitting film festivals in Spring 2009.
