k.d. lang has a distinctive, dreamy voice and a sensuality underlying her work. She is an unparalleled performer with an emotional depth and warmth that has attracted a substantial audience throughout her career, as well as multiple Grammy wins. k.d. lang's early Patsy Cline-inspired records with The Reclines were on-air staples at KCRW in the '80s. In the early '90s, her on-air live performances were among the most celebrated appearances at our studios.
k.d. returned to the Santa Monica-based station's signature show Morning Becomes Eclectic Thursday, October 9 and proclaimed KCRW the "world's greatest station." She also said she was really excited for the show because she loves small venues and is performing "as a listener" to help out a station she loves. Proceeds from KCRW Sessions shows go towards the station's music programming.
"k.d. has a long history here and I've been lucky enough to sit in the studio with her while she performs. I can tell you right now, the audience will be absolutely floored by her performance," said host Chris Douridas.
k.d. lang is currently touring in support of her new record, "Watershed."
KCRW Sessions shows are stripped down to the essence of what we at KCRW see when an artist comes to perform in our studios, providing a unique behind-the-scenes perspective with an interview and live session held in front of an audience of 500. The shows are intimate and personal, a time to connect with an artist in their element. The series showcases KCRW's music hosts and spotlights our favorite artists in an intimate venue. Sia kicked off the series and Moby further cemented its success.
