NEW YORK and WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., June 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Caroline Scollard-Taplett, General Sales Manager of WPBF-TV, the Hearst-Argyle Television ABC affiliate serving the Palm Beaches, has been named the station's Vice President and General Manager. The appointment, effective immediately, was announced by David J. Barrett, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hearst-Argyle Television, Inc.

WPBF serves the West Palm Beach - Ft. Pierce television market, ranked No. 38 in the latest Nielsen market rankings and among the nation's fastest-growing. The station is licensed to Hearst Corporation, Hearst-Argyle's majority owner, which acquired WPBF in 1997, and is managed by Hearst-Argyle.

"Caroline has overseen sales for WPBF during a time of steady growth for the station," Barrett said. "Her accomplishments in sales management, her extensive experience in the local market, and her first-hand knowledge of WPBF's operations have prepared her well for this new management opportunity. We are confident that she will lead our team at WPBF to further growth in ratings, revenue and profitability, and we are delighted that we have filled this position from within our company."

Scollard-Taplett has served as WPBF's General Sales Manager since 2000; she joined the station in 1994 as National Sales Manager. Previously, she held National Account Executive positions with Blair Television and, before that, Katz Television, two of the leading New York City-based national television advertising "rep" firms. She began her TV career in 1984 at WBFS-TV, Miami, as an Account Executive and, later, National Sales Manager. She holds a BA in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Miami (Florida).

Scollard-Taplett is actively involved within both industry and civic organizations. She serves as representative for Hearst-Argyle within the Television Bureau of Advertising (TVB) National Sales Advisory Committee. A resident of Palm Beach Gardens, she is a graduate of the Class of 2007 of Leadership Palm Beach County, an educational non-profit whose development program is designed to provide participants with a foundation for life-long commitment to effective leadership in the community.
