The comprehensive, user-generated database is comprised of more than 200,000 songs and growing daily, including many of today's favorite holiday jingles. With the addition of these four languages, the Midomi interface is now available in a total of 10 languages, including English, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Italian and French.

"Midomi.com offers a unique and easy way to record and send personalized holiday messages to friends and family around the world," said Keyvan Mohajer, chief executive officer of Melodis. Mohajer points out that it's no easy task to develop a technology that recognizes the many variations a song that can be sung or hummed in English let alone in so many related languages.

"The technology behind Midomi analyzes pitch, melody, rhythm, speech and phonetic content as well as other sound features. It then compares those measurements with the user generated database and matches accordingly," said Mohajer. "The technology has a 95 percent accuracy rate."

For music enthusiasts and artists alike, the site enables them to discover and be discovered, helping to establish a unique presence and build a viral fan base in a fun and intuitive way. The free member-based service, which was named one of the top technology innovations of 2007 by Popular Science's 20th Annual Best of What's New (BOWN) Awards, requires a computer microphone to sing and record music on the site.
