Public Broadcasting's Dave and Dave Peek Into Pennsylvania's Most Unique Museums in New Statewide Documentary

Public Broadcasting's Dave and Dave Peek Into Pennsylvania's Most Unique Museums in New Statewide Documentary

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- What do elephants, lighters, bugs, trains, Houdini, and Pez dispensers have in common?

They are just a few of Pennsylvania's offbeat museums which everyone can tour with Dave Rhodes and Dave Hallewell in their next Pennsylvania Public Television Network (PPTN) show called Pennsylvania's Offbeat Museums with Dave and Dave. This is the second installment in the duo's tourism-focused features, launched in 2006 with the Telly-Award winning Eat Pennnsylvania: A Keystone Plate Special with Dave and Dave. The pair took a humorous look last year at some of the state's most unusual eateries from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia.

Unlike conventional museums where visitors are not often permitted to touch and examine the displays, in Offbeat Museums, Dave and Dave travel the Commonwealth to uncover the quirkiest, most unusual -- but always fun -- museums. Viewers will meet the people behind the collections and find out what drives them to not only "save the stuff" but showcase it, as well.

From Pittsburgh to Bradford to Williamsport to Galeton and Philadelphia, Dave and Dave provide a bouncy travelogue featuring:

-- Harry Houdini Museum, Scranton -- dedicated to the world's greatest illusionist, but why Scranton? -- Zippo/Case Museum, Bradford -- the world headquarters of Zippo Lighters -- Little League Museum, Williamsport -- the international home of Little League baseball -- Pez Museum, Easton -- over 1800 of the character-candy dispensers -- Mr. Ed's Elephant Museum, Ortanna -- 6,000 elephants of all sizes -- Toy Robot Museum, Adamstown -- it all started with one robot as an anniversary gift from the owner's wife -- Pennsylvania Lumber Museum, Galeton -- a homage to the state's logging industry -- Insectarium, Philadelphia -- bugs galore -- Western Pennsylvania Model Railroad Museum, Pittsburgh -- locomotives and the towns they serve in great tiny detail -- East Broad Top Railroad, Rock Hill Furnace -- the last remaining narrow-gauge railroad east of the Mississippi

Pennsylvania's Offbeat Museums with Dave and Dave premieres statewide on the following dates and times:

   -- WPSU - Sunday, November 11 at 7pm -- WQED - Thursday, November 15 at 8pm and Sunday, November 18 at 5pm -- WITF - Sunday, November 18 at 5pm -- WVIA - Monday, December 31 at 10pm; Friday, January 11 at 10am; and Saturday, January 12 at 11pm Who are Dave & Dave?
