Governor Granholm, Attorney General Cox, & Michigan Chamber Kick Off 4th Annual 'Support MI Troops' Fundraising Drive Proceeds to Benefit the Bob Woodruff Family Fund

LANSING, Mich., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, Attorney General Mike Cox and Michigan Chamber of Commerce President Jim Barrett today kicked off the 4th Annual "Support MI Troops" fundraising drive. The "Support MI Troops" initiative raises funds to support Michigan soldiers, sailors, and Marines serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. This year's fundraiser will benefit the Bob Woodruff Family Fund founded by Michigan native Bob Woodruff in order to raise funds for soldiers who are suffering from traumatic brain and head injuries.

Joining in the Support MI Troops campaign will be media partners News/Talk 760 WJR and WXYZ-TV 7, led by reporter Bill Spencer.

In addition to raising money for those who are wounded, this year's Support MI Troops will continue the tradition of purchasing gifts and shipping them to our Michigan troops based in Iraq.

"Serving in the armed forces is perhaps the highest calling on behalf of our nation and it is important that we stand by those who have answered the call to serve," Granholm said. "This is a great way for citizens to help those who have fought to preserve the freedom we enjoy today."

"No one sacrifices more for America and our freedoms than our troops," said Cox. "That's why I am proud to team up with the Bob Woodruff Family Fund in order to raise funds for our soldiers who have been wounded while serving their country. They've paid a heavy price. We are proud of the job they are doing and we will never forget them."

"The Michigan Chamber Foundation is proud to once again be a part of the 'Support MI Troops' initiative," said Jim Barrett, president & CEO of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce. "On behalf of the business community, we are pleased to support our military men and women on overseas assignments in Iraq and Afghanistan."

As in previous years, a fundraiser will be held to raise money for this year's cause. The public is invited to stop by Doc's Sports Retreat in Livonia on Nov. 28 between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. All proceeds go to benefit the Bob Woodruff Family Fund for Traumatic Brain Injury ($25.00 suggested donation at the door).

Individuals or businesses interested in contributing can make checks payable to "BWFF" and mail them to the Bob Woodruff Family Fund for Traumatic Brain Injuries at P.O. Box 731, Birmingham, MI 48012.

Since the program was kicked off in 2003, Support MI Troops has raised more than $240,000 for thousands of Michigan soldiers, sailors, and Marines serving our country in Iraq and Afghanistan.
