Atlantic Station(R) Tree Lighting To Launch Atlanta's Holiday Season

Atlantic Station(R) Tree Lighting To Launch Atlanta's Holiday Season

City's hottest community to unveil Winter Wonderland, department-store Santa

ATLANTA, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Atlantic Station will kick off Atlanta's holiday season by illuminating more than 250,000 lights during "The Lighting of Atlantic Station" in Central Park on Saturday, Nov. 17.

This free event will feature the lighting of a 50-foot tall Christmas tree as well as a performance by Atlanta's own Diana DeGarmo and appearances by 11Alive personalities, local celebrities and more. The event will be shown live on WXIA-TV (NBC) at 7:30 p.m.

"Atlantic Station is that part of the City especially designed and built for families and the holidays. The streets will be closed and the shops will be open as we turn the neighborhood into a cityscape of twinkling lights, horse-drawn carriages and evening snow showers," said Brian Leary, Vice President, AIG Global Real Estate. "Atlantic Station is proud to kick off the holiday season in Atlanta with this wonderful tradition."

Atlantic Station is also unveiling its first department-store Santa. Santa will arrive in Atlantic Station on Nov. 17 for "The Lighting of Atlantic Station" before taking up his permanent station on the third floor of Dillard's. From Nov. 23 - Dec. 24, children can give Santa their holiday wish lists, photo opportunities will be available, and all children who visit Santa will receive a special treat, compliments of Dillard's.

"The Lighting of Atlantic Station" officially kicks off weeks of holiday events in Atlantic Station. From Nov. 17 - Dec. 24, the public can gather in Central Park around the tree every day at 7:30 p.m. (7:30 and 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays) for "It's Snowing in the Station." Atlantic Station will be transformed into a winter wonderland of holiday lights and snow (with conserving Georgia's water in mind, the snow used to create the magical experience consists entirely of out-of-state water).

Other Atlantic Station holiday attractions include: * Extended Holiday Hours: Starting Nov. 16, Atlantic Station retailers will stay open for extended hours, most from 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. to provide holiday shoppers with more time to find that perfect gift. Extended hours will apply to most stores through Dec. 31. * The Holiday Shops in Atlantic Station: Beginning Nov. 16, an outdoor European-inspired marketplace, featuring holiday treats and delights, will make its debut throughout the Holiday season. For more information regarding the Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces, please visit www.affps.com. * Holiday Window Display Contest: Starting Nov. 17, Atlantic Station retailers will begin to unveil their most creative and unique holiday window displays, all part of the "Holiday Window Display Contest." * The Steel Mill Express: Debuting Nov. 17, families can ride a miniature open-topped "trackless" train that recalls the industrial heritage of Atlantic Station while providing a scenic ride of new community and its 250,000 lights, including hundreds of lighted snowflakes. * Horse & Carriage Rides: Beginning Nov. 24, holiday horse and carriage rides will be available most Fridays and Saturdays. Rides are free, but donations are accepted, and all proceeds will benefit the Make-a- Wish Foundation, which supports Atlanta-area children.
