Clark Turner Signature Homes Joins with 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' for Port Deposit House Makeover

PORT DEPOSIT, Md. (October 14, 2007) -- Clark Turner Signature Homes of Harford County and its building partners today join ABC-TV's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" to give a deserving local family their dream home.

This morning, the lives of the Luther family, who live on a farm in the pastoral countryside of Port Deposit, Md. in Cecil County, were forever changed when they heard Extreme Makeover team leader Ty Pennington's famous "good morning" wake-up call. Pennington, along with the other designers, surprised the family with news that their home has been chosen to receive a makeover.

In just seven days Ty and the designers of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will be rebuilding the family's home and Renee's horse riding facility, fulfilling her husband's last wish.

Operated by Renee and now in its 25th year of operation, Freedom Hills Therapeutic Riding has helped thousands of people enjoy and benefit from their therapeutic riding lessons including those who suffer from a wide range of physical problems that include brain injuries, broken necks, autism, cerebral palsy, and other developmental issues.

She's accomplished much for her community all the while facing personal tragedy: her husband Carl was diagnosed with liver cancer and passed away a few months ago. On her own, Renee now raises and supports her two children -- ages 14 and 17 -- in addition to maintaining her riding facility. Struggling with finances, Renee fears she will have to close the facility, which she promised her husband she would fix up. In addition her house has many problems including foundation problems, lack of insulation, unsafe windows and doors and a kitchen with broken appliances.

"It's like the Triple Crown of home building for the trades and subcontractors on our team; it's an opportunity they might never see again, and it's a chance for them to shine, to show their skills and do their best work," said Clark Turner, president and founder of Clark Turner Signature Homes, Belcamp, Md. "What we'll be leaving behind is a better community, enabling Renee and her family to continue doing great work and we'll all walk away feeling better about it."
