Super WHY! Children's Literacy Event on Oct. 13 Hosted by WETA TV 26, D.C. Parks and Recreation, D.C. Public Libraries and SPARK D.C.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- WETA TV 26, in partnership with the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation, D.C. Public Libraries and SPARK D.C., is hosting a literacy event surrounding the new PBS children's series Super WHY!. The celebration, The Sky Is Not the Limit, takes place on Saturday, Oct. 13, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Emery Recreational Center in Washington, D.C. and is designed to encourage children 2-6 to develop a love for reading. The event includes a meet-and-greet with Super Why, arts, crafts and more. For details, e-mail eod@weta.com. Super WHY! airs weekdays at 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The event will take place at Emery Recreational Center at the corners of Georgia and Missouri Avenues NW on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The structure of the event is as follows (when you see the same number written twice, these events occur concurrently):

1. Speaker

2. Parent workshop breakout sessions (2 sessions with the parents choosing between them) 2. Learning and Activity Stations for the children

3. 2nd round parent workshops (2 sessions with the parents choosing between them) 3. Learning and Activity Stations for the children

   4. Superman Contest    Other elements include:   1. Super WHY! costume character   2. The DCPL bookmobile  

3. Books for the kids (through the Library's RIF program, SPARK's First Books and parents who attend the Ready To Learn session)

   4. Health screenings    Learning and Activity Stations:   1. Professional Storyteller   2. Show Super WHY!   3. Library card sign up   4. Face painting   5. Arts and Crafts (including character masks and coloring books)
