- New 26 week original series sponsored by Eli Lilly and hosted by renowned Drs. Lisa Mazzullo and Lauren Streicher kicks off during Breast Cancer Awareness Month -
HIGHLAND PARK, Ill., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- ReachMD, the voice of the medical community on XM radio (channel 157), today announced the launch of its newest programming series, Advances in Women's Health. The original programming will provide the most up-to-date news and information to the medical community by some of the most respected medical doctors in the country, starting October 15, 2007.
Advances in Women's Health programming is being hosted by Dr. Lisa Mazzullo and Dr. Lauren F. Streicher. Both physicians are Chicago-based and nationally respected OB/GYNs. Dr. Streicher is widely known as a leading commentator on women's health with over 200 appearances on local and national news programs, including ABC's 20/20 and In The Loop with iVillage. Dr. Mazzullo is a well respected author of a number of books on pregnancy and women's health including "Before Your Pregnancy: a 90 Day Guide for Couples on how to Prepare for a Healthy Conception."
"Medical innovations and treatment protocols evolve at a breakneck pace and medical professionals not only need to keep up with them, but also a platform for discussing them," said Dr. David Preskill, founder and Chief Medical Officer at ReachMD and a practicing OB/GYN.
"Women's health is a particularly dynamic area of medicine right now and physicians -- and their patients -- are in need of more communication channels for bringing important issues in women's health to the broader community," Dr. Preskill continued.
This comprehensive programming series will address advances, breakthroughs and treatments for conditions related to women's health, as well as preventive measures physicians can advise their patients to pursue. Topics will include breast health as it relates to cancer, ethnicity, fertility and pregnancy; osteoporosis; female athletes' health and emotional issues; pregnancy and all facets related to it; aging; nutrition and health; eating disorders; alternative medicine; and sex education.
Guest speakers will include expert physicians ranging from world renowned bone density expert, Dr. Murray Favus, who will address the issues many postmenopausal women face to Dr. Rachel Brem, who will examine Breast Specific Gama Imaging.
"For much of medicine's history, the community of doctors, researchers and other specialists focused primarily on men's health, or followed the same protocols in diagnosing and treating women," said Gary Epstein, CEO of ReachMD.
"Today, however, women's health issues are finally starting to get the singular attention they deserve. We think it's critically important that, given the level of activity in women's health, doctors and other health professionals have a dynamic means for learning about and discussing advancements, innovations, discoveries and opinions occurring in this important area of medicine. We are thrilled to be providing one forum for doing so," Epstein continued.
ReachMD XM 157 has fashioned more than 1,500 unique and original shows on developments in healthcare. These programs, as all others on ReachMD, are created by and reported on by medical professionals, for medical professionals. Guests on Advances in Women's Health will be added on a regular basis and the series will air for six months. The weekly schedule is posted on www.reachmd.com/xmradio.aspx.
