Univision Relocates its Headquarters to the Legendary Penobscot Building in Downtown Detroit

The Fast-Growing Local Affiliate of the Most-Watched Spanish Network will Occupy 6,000 Square Feet in 30th Floor Suite

DETROIT, Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Univision Detroit, Metro Detroit's premier Spanish media channel, has moved its headquarters to the downtown Detroit Penobscot Building, one of "The Downtown Collection's" most celebrated addresses.

Univision WUDT Channel 23 Detroit moved from its offices in Troy to more than 6,000 square feet on the 30th floor of the Penobscot Building in early July. The space will serve as home base for the local affiliate, its 12 employees and eight future hires, said Univision General Manager Jessica Pellegrino.

"The Downtown Collection has exceeded our expectations," Pellegrino said. "The amazing service that we've received and the package of amenities, such as valet parking, that the Penobscot provides us, were key reasons we decided to locate our headquarters in Downtown Detroit," she said.

The Penobscot Building, located at 645 Griswold in Detroit, is one of three legendary buildings on or near Campus Martius that comprise "The Downtown Collection", which also includes the First National Building and the Cadillac Tower.

The Downtown Collection and Alden Park Towers, a historic group of three riverfront apartment buildings in Detroit, are owned by the Northern Group, Inc. NGI is a privately held, New York-based real estate investment firm established more then 20 years ago by principals committed to creatively readapting commercial real estate within urban areas.

Convenient location, comprehensive amenities, multiple services and 24-hour security offered by the three historic buildings offer an attractive option for more businesses and organizations. The Downtown Collection has signed an impressive list of new and expanding tenants totaling nearly 350,000 square feet.

"We're thrilled to announce the addition of Univision Detroit to our tenant roster at the Penobscot building," said Jonathan Zich, Chief Operating Officer of The Downtown Collection. "All three of our buildings are exceptionally attractive to those who want the highest standard of amenities and services, and Univision is a terrific example of how the Downtown Collection has become the premier location of choice for more businesses."

Univision promises to grow at their new location. The affiliate has garnered an Emmy nomination for its local public affairs show, "Informando" (Informing), and was added to Comcast's lineup in March on Channel 23, adding more than 280,000 homes to the station's viewing audience.

The affiliate serves a coveted and growing demographic. Its primary viewers, Metro Detroit's Hispanic community, has doubled since the 1990 Census, growing from 50,000 to 130,000 in 2003, according to the U.S. Census 2005 American Community Survey, or about five percent of the Metro Detroit population.

Univision is adding eight new staffers to its current team of 12 to manage its growth. "We're going to be a major media presence in Detroit," Pellegrino said.

The Northern Group is responsible for transforming landmark buildings and neighborhoods by sensitive rehabilitation, tastefully blending the existing architecture with new infrastructure, creating vibrant homes and workplaces.

The Penobscot Building is located in 645, Griswold in Downtown Detroit.
