29th Annual Adams Morgan Day Festival Adds New Features
WASHINGTON, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The DC area's most talked about multicultural festival returns on September 9th for the 29th year. The Adams Morgan Day Festival includes delectable cuisine from around the world, including Greek, Jamaican, Latin American, African, local seafood favorites, and desserts. Spotlight sponsor Mini Cooper shows off three live music stages, original artisans at 'Arts on Belmont', plus the popular new international Dance Plaza and an expanded Kid's Fair at Marie Reed school.
First held in 1978, this regional festival celebrates international cultures and creativity, arising from the "melting pot" quality of the unique Adams Morgan neighborhood. Free to the public, the Festival location is 18th Street N.W. between Florida Ave. and Columbia Rd. from Noon - 7:00 p.m. Known for its range of music and dance performances, youth activities, and vendors galore, this regional festival always pleases metro visitors and tourists alike. Avid arts shoppers can buy exclusive finds by attending "Arts on Belmont' which opens early at 10:00 am.
New this year is e-Bay filming Festival goers and doing interviews about buying and selling on e-Bay, as well as Jazz in Kalorama Park, an oasis area with family oriented vendors. Especially popular will be the VerizonWireless booth which will offers free long distance calling worldwide.

The interactive Dance Plaza, sponsored by Lowe's and BB&T, features an exciting lineup of dance groups that perform and teach basic dance moves, so the audience can join in. Performances by the Malcolm X Drummers & Dancers, DC Casineros, DC Dance Collective, Group, a Bolivian Folkloric Group as well as the Kukuwa dancers. A special appearance by Ras Lidj and Deep Band, along with a belly dance workshop are certain crowd pleasers.
The Kid's Fair, sponsored by Meow Mix is both fun and educational. Full of games and educational activities, it boasts rock climbing, putt-putt, moon bounce, face painting, and bilingual science exhibits. New this year is the Meow Mix, A-CAT-EMY! Learn to be like a cat! Join the dancing Maggie Moo Cow and Screech, the Nationals mascot, Kinderman and Jake the Magician..
The famous favorite live music stages, Florida and Columbia, bookend 18th Street. The Florida stage, produced by Jerry Phillips of Washington Post Radio, has a Latin/Caribbean jazz, reggae, and salsa flavor. The Columbia Stage features Up tempo jazz with rock undercurrents, and Madam's Organ's special bluegrass/blues, & Southern Soul & Rock n' Roll. The Cultural Stage, sponsored by Bank of America hosts diverse, international music, drummers, and actors.
The ever popular, "Arts on Belmont," showcases original work of artists and artisans along a shady, tree-lined street. Artists bring glassware and metalwork, paintings, ceramics, jewelry, sculptures, photography and more.
