One of the Country's Most Renowned Independent Video Stores Marks Two Decades By Presenting Events With LA Times Film Critic Kenneth Turan, a Panel on Movie Music Featuring KCRW DJs, and a Performance Inspired By Movies
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Passionate film fans will have a chance to indulge their movie love with three unique in-store presentations at the famed Vidiots Video store in Santa Monica. Vidiots, which has blossomed from a storefront in 1985 to a sprawling and cherished L.A. institution with over 40,000 independent, classic and hard-to-find titles, celebrates its birthday with three November nights sure to be remembered.
A NIGHT WITH LA TIMES FILM CRITIC KENNETH TURAN, Thursday, November 3rd at 8pm. Turan, author of "Never Coming to a Theatre Near You" will speak on his enthusiasm for movies that failed to garner the audiences he feels they deserved. The NPR Morning Edition commentator will also engage in a Q and A and sign copies of his book.
"THAT SONG IN THE BACKGROUND: KCRW DJs PICK THEIR FAVORITE MOVIE MUSIC OF THE LAST 20 YEARS", Saturday, November 12th, 8pm. Two great independent voices join together for one unique event! KCRW, a tastemaker in music, comes to Vidiots when on-air hosts Jason Bentley, Raul Campos, Gary Calomar, Tricia Halloran and Eric J. Lawrence join Vidiots to screen and discuss their favorite uses of a song in a movie from the last two decades. Film critic Tom Cendejas will moderate the discussion/Q and A and a Saturday night party will follow with Mr. Lawrence at the turntables. This event is sure to be popular with industry tastemakers as well as music and film fans.
"VIDIOTS SPECIAL FEATURES", Saturday, November 19th, 8pm, will be a show of movie-inspired comic monologues, poetry and song featuring Vidiots staff who jump from behind the counter and performers who've appeared at The Groundlings, Bang!, Highways, The Comedy Store and more. Directed by Christine Schoenwald, this night culminates with the official Vidiots 20th anniversary celebration.
