Tut Systems Wins Contract to Provide MPEG-4 AVC Headend and Carrier Class Edge Modulation

Fidelity Communications Selects Tut Systems Astria(R) Family of Products for Delivering Advanced TV Services Simultaneously Over Copper and Coaxial Access Networks

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tut Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:TUTS), an industry leader enabling the delivery of next-generation data and video services over broadband networks, today announced that Fidelity Communications Company selected its Astria(R) content processors and its newly released Astria(R) video services processor (VSP) to deliver advanced TV services to customers in Eastern Missouri.

Tut Systems' Astria CP platform will serve as the core video processing system for Fidelity's MPEG-4 AVC digital headend and the Astria VSP will serve as a vital bridge between Fidelity's core IP transport network and its cable customers.

With the Astria VSP, Fidelity will serve cable customers from a single high availability platform at the edge of the network. Tut Systems will also provide comprehensive systems integration services including project management, design, staging, installation, pre-launch testing and on-site training.

"The scope and depth of Tut Systems Astria product lines and its level of customer satisfaction are second to none in the industry," said Mike Davis, Senior Vice President of Fidelity. "The high quality and low bit rate of the Astria CP, combined with the carrier-class RF edge modulation functionality of the Astria VSP, will allow us to leverage a single headend and IP network across our copper and coax networks."

"We are honored to add Fidelity to our rapidly growing list of MPEG-4 AVC customers and excited to see them taking advantage of our recently released Astria VSP product line," said Bob Noonan, Vice President, Global Sales and Customer Service Sales of Tut Systems. "We look forward to a successful rollout and are pleased to provide Fidelity with an end-to-end video processing solution that spans their telco and cable operations."

The Industry's Leading IPTV Platform for Telcos

More than 150 service providers across North America, Europe and Asia deliver IPTV powered by Tut Systems digital headends. The Astria family of video processing platforms, which serves as the core of the company's digital headend solution, processes both analog and digital video streams from multiple satellite and local sources in a variety of formats. The Astria CP supports MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC video compression, local ad insertion, forward error correction and provides real-time conditioning for distribution of video and audio over any ATM, IP, or RF broadband network. The Astria VSP provides the highest density, carrier class, single chassis product for the delivery of IP video over RF broadband access networks, including coax and FTTP (Fiber to the Premises).
