iBiquity Digital Named Third Fastest Growing Technology Company in Maryland
COLUMBIA, Md., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- iBiquity Digital, the sole developer of digital HD Radio technology, announced today that it has been named the third fastest growing technology company in Maryland in Deloitte's annual Technology Fast 50 Program. The rankings are based on the percentage of revenue growth over five years, from 2000-2004. Deloitte ranked iBiquity as the 17th fastest growing technology company last year.
Robert Struble, president and CEO for iBiquity Digital Corporation stated, "iBiquity is proud of this prestigious recognition. It reflects the tremendous long-term effort of our employees and our partners -- AM/FM radio broadcasters, transmission equipment, semiconductor and radio manufacturers -- in commercializing HD Radio technology. It also highlights the great momentum that HD Radio technology has established in the marketplace with more than 2,800 stations now in the process of upgrading to HD Radio broadcasting."
To qualify for the Technology Fast 50, companies must have had operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 2000 and $1,000,000 in 2004, be headquartered in North America, and be a "technology company," defined as a company that owns proprietary technology that contributes to a significant portion of the company's operating revenues; or devotes a significant proportion of revenues to the research and development of technology. Using other companies' technology in a unique way does not qualify.
Winners of the 15 regional Technology Fast 50 programs in the United States and Canada are automatically entered in Deloitte's Technology Fast 500 program, which ranks North America's top 500 fastest growing technology companies. About HD Radio(TM)
HD Radio technology transmits digital audio and data alongside existing AM and FM analog signals, allowing listeners with HD Radio-compatible receivers to enjoy CD-quality sound, while virtually eliminating the static and hiss typically associated with analog radio. Beyond delivering superior sound, the technology provides a platform for advanced new services, including scrolling text on receiver display screens (e.g., artist names & song titles, weather forecasts, school closings); delivery of real-time traffic updates to vehicles; and multicasting -- a feature that allows FM stations to broadcast up to eight digital streams of programming over a single frequency and in addition to existing analog signals. Over 2,800 radio stations in the U.S. are in the process of converting to the HD Radio system with more than 500 HD Radio broadcasters currently on the air. HD Radio receivers are now available or expected later this year from: ADA, Alpine, Boston Acoustics, DaySequerra, JVC, Kenwood, Panasonic, Radiosophy, Rotel, Sanyo, and Yamaha, with many more under development.
