30,000 Comcast Volunteers Provide More Than 180,000 Hours of Service On Nearly 300 Different Community Projects Nationwide

The Comcast Foundation Also Will Donate Over $1 Million In Grants to Community Partner Organizations

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 30,000 Comcast employees and their families donated 180,000 hours of service - the equivalent of more than 86 years of service in one day - during the fifth annual Comcast Cares Day this past Saturday. The Comcast Foundation also is donating over $1 million in grants to the community partner organizations with which the employee volunteers worked on the October 1 Comcast Cares Day company-wide day of service.

"Every year I am amazed by the generosity of our employees in giving of their time on a Saturday to help their communities. We are all busy, but the fact that 30,000 of our employees and their families gave up their Saturday to help others speaks volumes about our people," said Comcast Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brian L. Roberts. "We are extremely proud and grateful to our employees and to the nonprofits that provide support everyday to our communities."

Comcast volunteers worked on local projects - from painting schools and landscaping community parks to stocking food banks - with almost 300 community organizations in 32 states and the District of Columbia. In each location, volunteers rolled up their sleeves to make a noticeable difference in their communities.

Among the many great stories of Comcast Cares Day are the following:

-- The devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita served as motivation for several Comcast Cares Day projects across the Company's Southern Division. In Jacksonville, FL, 250 Comcast volunteers partnered with the Northeast Florida Second Harvest Food Bank to collect 8,400 pounds of food and more than $1,000 in cash from the public and employees for hurricane victims. People donating supplies were offered free car washes by Comcast employees. In Mobile, AL, where many residents and businesses are still recovering from storm damage, 46 Comcast volunteers landscaped and painted at a Boys & Girls Club camp.

-- In Philadelphia, COMHAR, Inc. estimates that the efforts of Comcast volunteers who painted their new facility to serve people with developmental disabilities and mental health concerns saved the organization approximately $30,000 and sped up the facility's grand opening by three months.

-- While the office in Grants, NM employs only six people, they celebrated Comcast Cares Day with a tremendous outreach to local organizations and the community. Their combined efforts turned out 550 volunteers who helped transform the high school athletic complex. They cleaned ditches, installed fencing and a scoreboard/schedule

sign, did maintenance on the soccer field and helped the band host its "Junior Quad" sports competition.

-- In Irvington, NJ, one resident remarked, "I've lived here for 40 years and this is the first time that anyone has come to the area like this." Looking at a lot that just last week was vacant and trash-strewn, but had been transformed by Comcast volunteers into a playground, the resident added, "This is the first time that the lot on the corner has ever had a tree in it." Over 200 Comcast volunteers also painted the Irvington Neighborhood Improvement Corporation building, removed graffiti from surrounding buildings, served lunches to the community and contributed a PC and a Comcast high-speed Internet connection.

Now in its fifth year, Comcast Cares Day is an important part of the Company's commitment to the communities it serves. Employee volunteers represented many sectors of the Comcast Family of Companies - from its corporate headquarters in Philadelphia, to its local cable offices and content businesses: Comcast-Spectacor, Comcast SportsNet, E! Entertainment Television, The Golf Channel and OLN as well as Comcast Spotlight.

In addition to Comcast Cares Day, Comcast employees volunteer year-round with a variety of projects and organizations through the company's Comcast Cares program. For more information on Comcast's volunteer and community investment initiatives, visit http://www.comcast.com/Neighborhood.
