'Gilmore Girls' Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel Appear in New Public Service Announcement for Entertainment Industry Foundation, QVC and philosophy
The Stars of Gilmore Girls Unite to Help Raise Funds for Women's Cancer Prevention
STUDIO CITY, Calif., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Stars of the WB Network's "Gilmore Girls" Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel appear in a new public service announcement to promote the sale of philosophy's Shower for the Cure Pink Ribbon Bath and Shower Gel on QVC, with proceeds benefiting the Entertainment Industry Foundation's Women's Cancer Research Fund (EIF's WCRF).
QVC offered philosophy's award-winning product during its Pink Ribbon Beauty Hour on Monday, October 3, 2005 and will feature it again during QVC's AM Style show on Saturday, October 8 beginning at 9:30 AM (ET). Retailing for $20.00, the all-in-one product works as a shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. philosophy has generously donated 35,000 units for sale on QVC, from which 100% of the net proceeds will be donated to EIF's WCRF.
"Our Pink Ribbon Bath and Shower Gel was created to honor and remember every woman who has survived, battled or lost the fight against breast cancer," said philosophy creator, Christina Carlino. "philosophy is proud to team up with QVC and lend our collective support to further the groundbreaking work of EIF's Women's Cancer Research Fund."
The memorable poem, "Unforgettable," inscribed on each bottle, was written by Carlino and is inspired by women everywhere who live every day to the fullest. She dedicates the poem to those close to her who have been diagnosed with women's cancers and all of those whom she has never met, but whose determination inspires her every day.
Nearly 350,000 women will be diagnosed with breast and gynecological cancers this year, claiming the lives of over 70,000 women. EIF's WCRF is committed to saving lives by raising funds and awareness for millions of women and their families at risk for or affected by cancer. Money raised through this QVC/philosophy offering will support the EIF/WCRF Breast Biomarker Discovery Project. Through this ambitious, first-of-its-kind scientific project, world-class scientists are collaborating to develop blood tests that will detect breast cancer in its earliest stages.
"QVC is committed to working with our vendors to support philanthropic initiatives, like EIF's WCRF, to make a difference in social and medical issues on both a national and international level," said Allen Burke, director of QVC's beauty merchandising division. "philosophy continues to be a wonderful ally in the fight against breast cancer and we're looking forward to strengthening our joint efforts with this year's Pink Ribbon Beauty Hour. EIF's ambassadors, past and present, have done an excellent service in helping to draw attention to such an important cause."
"We applaud Lauren and Alexis for lending their support to help raise awareness and funds for such an important research project. With the help of our EIF ambassadors, QVC and philosophy, we are making great strides in finding better ways to detect cancer early, when it can be cured," said Lisa Paulsen, CEO of the Entertainment Industry Foundation.
Graham and Bledel, who serve as this year's Entertainment Industry Foundation ambassadors, join other celebrities who have previously supported this important women's cancer campaign, including: Mischa Barton, Angela Bassett, Candice Bergen, Marcia Cross, Kristin Davis, Mariel Hemingway, Felicity Huffman, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
