900,000 Youth Planned Suicides During Major Depression
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has released data showing that approximately 900-thousand youth had made a plan to commit suicide during their worst or most recent episode of major depression, and 712-thousand attempted suicide during such an episode of depression. The new data contained in a special report on youth ages 12-17 was announced at the Suicide Prevention Action Network USA's tenth Anniversary National Awareness Event in Arlington, Virginia.

Virus May Help Treat Brain Tumors
A common virus may become a potent weapon to treat brain tumors. Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham will test the experimental cancer therapy Reolysin to treat gliomas, some of the most aggressive and deadly brain tumors. The studies are sponsored by Oncolytics Biotech. Researchers are going to test the ability of Reolysin to kill brain tumor cells without harming adjacent normal cells and tissues. The treatment is intended to work without causing the nausea, hair loss and other adverse side effects common to radiation and chemotherapy. According to the American Brain Tumor Association, more than 190-thousand people in the U-S are diagnosed with a brain tumor every year.
