Currently a radio sales representative at Glory Communications, Inc. in Columbia, S.C., Snipe-Campbell has 11 years of radio experience. She graduated from Johnson C. Smith University with a degree in Business Administration. Her media background includes sales, marketing, media planning and programming.
A former station manager for WBOT-FM/WILD-AM in Boston, Horton is currently employed as a marketing and management consultant. His degree from Howard University is in Broadcast Management. Horton's 30-plus years of media experience include business and contract management, sales, media planning, event management, public relations, operations and as a national news correspondent for public radio.
The NABOB DaimlerChrysler Management Fellowship is offered through DaimlerChrysler's Leadership in Diversity and Communications Program, or LIDAC, a far-reaching educational program established by the automaker designed to increase the number of minorities in executive leadership positions in the communications industry.
Specifically, DaimlerChrysler has committed $50,000 to sponsor two fellowships through NABOB, intended to put minorities on the track to broadcast media ownership.
The fellows will go through a rigorous two-year program: learning the laws governing U.S. airwaves; learning the requirements of financial institutions for funding and understanding the nuances of running a media operation from on-air personalities to signal coverage to hiring engineers and training advertising sales staff. In addition, DaimlerChrysler will host a "Fellows Retreat" at DaimlerChrysler Corporate Headquarters in Auburn Hills, Mich., where the fellows will have an opportunity to meet and interact with corporate representatives and gain insight from their knowledge and expertise.
"We are very excited about this program and about working with NABOB to help this very valuable and far-thinking organization fulfill its mission to improve and increase the opportunities for black and minority owners in the broadcast industry," said Vines. "We believe we have two very strong candidates in Ms. Snipe-Campbell and Mr. Horton, and we're looking forward to great things from both of them."
NABOB is the first and largest trade organization representing the interests of African-American owners of radio and television stations across the country. The association was organized in 1976 by a small group of African-American broadcasters who desired to establish a voice and a viable presence in the industry and to address specific concerns facing African- American broadcasters. NABOB is a non-profit corporation and is governed by a volunteer board of directors elected by its members. Day-to-day operations of the association are carried out at its headquarters in Washington, D.C.
