Celebrate Takoma Park Folk Festival's 28th Year
All-Day, Free Festival Features Music, Dance, Crafts, Children's Events, and International Food
WASHINGTON, Aug. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- From Afro funk, salsa, and bluegrass, to reggae and Klezmer, the 28th annual Takoma Park Folk Festival has it all. The Festival brings traditional and international music and dance to the D.C.- metro area for the 28th year. This year's event will host 50+ performances by local and international musicians, dancers, and storytellers running continuously on seven stages all day.
The FREE Festival will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2005, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Takoma Park Middle School, 7611 Piney Branch Road, Takoma Park, MD. The site is accessible by car, bus, or Metro (with free shuttle buses). On-site parking is reserved for the handicapped. There is free satellite parking at the Montgomery College Parking Garage.
In addition to new performers, such as Chopteeth, we will welcome back Oscar Brand, Joe Hickerson, Pat Humphries & Sandy O, The Jones Family, Lea, Lori Kelly & Cletus Kennelly, The Rhythm Workers Union, We're About Nine, and more. The Singer-Songwriter Showcase will return for a second year; it's a version of "American Idol," and performers write original songs.
Plus, the workmanship of more than 50 craftspeople selected from a juried craft show will feature an outstanding array of clay, jewelry, textiles, wood, glass, wax, and other media. All works will be for sale. In addition, there will be a children's stage with games and activities, 18 international food vendors, and representatives from over 100 community organizations will be featured. There will also be an area for informal "jam" sessions by performers and visitors.
The Takoma Park Folk Festival, an all-volunteer event, raises funds to support local youth groups in Takoma Park and the surrounding area. For information about attending the Festival, becoming a volunteer, or sponsoring a stage, visit http://www.tpff.org/ or call 301-589-0202.
