SOUTHFIELD, Mich., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- WXYZ-TV/Channel 7, Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion, Molina Healthcare and General Motors will give thousands of Detroit metro area children a "boost" at the 28th annual "HEALTHY LIVING FOR KIDS" program. This year the program will be held Sunday, August 7, 2005 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at a new location: Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. Since 1977, the "Healthy Living" free immunization program, has helped nearly 50,000 young people.

Eligible children three months and older will be given free immunizations against polio, rubella, measles, mumps, tetanus, varicella (chicken pox), diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B and Hib (Haemophilus influenza type B). Registered nurses from the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion will administer the shots with the assistance of over 200 volunteers from the Health Department and WXYZ-TV/Channel 7.

The Detroit Department of Health campaign encourages parents to make sure that their children are receiving timely immunizations and health screenings, along with additional services. In addition, "The Children's Village" will be returning as a part of this year's event, which will house a variety of health services, community outreach organizations and entertainment. Services provided include free lead poison testing, signups for the WIC feeding program, Michigan Headstart Program and Big Brother Big Sister mentoring program enrollment.
