Tribune Elects Miles D. White to Board of Directors

Quarterly Dividend Declared, Officer Appointed

CHICAGO, July 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tribune Company (NYSE:TRB) today announced that Miles D. White, chairman and chief executive officer of Abbott, has been elected a director of the company. He was named yesterday at Tribune's regularly scheduled board meeting.

"Miles brings great talent and experience to the board," said Dennis J. FitzSimons, Tribune chairman, president and chief executive officer. "His insights and perspective as the CEO of one of Chicago's largest companies will add significant value for our shareholders."

White, 50, is chairman and chief executive officer of Abbott, a broad- based medical products and pharmaceutical company based in north suburban Chicago. He was elected to Abbott's board of directors in 1998 and assumed his current positions in 1999. Prior to joining Abbott in 1984, White was a management consultant with McKinsey & Co. He holds a bachelor's degree and MBA from Stanford University, and is active in Chicago's civic and business communities.

Also at yesterday's meeting, the Tribune board declared a regular quarterly dividend of $.18 per share on common stock payable on Sept. 8, 2005, to shareholders of record at the close of business on Aug. 25, 2005.

In other business, the board approved the appointment of Daniel G. Kazan as vice president/development. Kazan, 37, was previously director/corporate development and before that served as senior counsel/mergers and acquisitions. He joined Tribune Company in 1998.
