NEW YORK, July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Arista Records artist Sarah McLachlan, whose alluring songs of mystery and surrender have held a strong appeal for DJs, remixers, engineers, and producers in her native Canada, the U.S., and England for years, has completed her second album of remixes, entitled BLOOM, set to arrive in stores on September 6th. Its predecessor, Sarah McLachlan Remixed, released December 2003, peaked at #1 on the Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart.
BLOOM is a fascinating collection of previously unreleased remixed versions of 10 recordings, all but one of which - a collaboration with DMC of Run-DMC (remixed by will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas) - originally appeared on Sarah's earlier studio albums. The oldest song, "Vox," dates back to Sarah's debut album, Touch (1989), recorded when she was 19 years old. "Vox" is now heard via the Tom Middleton Mix.
Two more tracks originated on 1993's Fumbling Toward Ecstasy, Sarah's third album, and her second with long-time producer Pierre Marchand. "Ice (Dusted Mix)" was remixed with additional production by Rollo (of Faithless) and Mark Bates (Dusted, who also supplies additional keyboards). The title tune, "Fumbling Toward Ecstasy (Junior Boys Remix)," was remixed with additional production by the Ontario duo.
The lion's share of the songs on BLOOM originated on Afterglow, including all three Adult Top 40 single hits in remixed versions: "Fallen (Gabriel & Dresden Anti-Gravity Mix)" was remixed with additional production by Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden for Ornadel Management; "Stupid (Hyper Remix)" was remixed with additional production by Hyper and Ronnie for Hope Management Ltd. (with additional keyboards by G. Hatfield and J. Ross); and "World On Fire (Junkie XL Club Mix / GM Edit)" was remixed with additional production by the Netherlands-based house music producer.
Three more tracks also have their roots on Afterglow: "Dirty Little Secret (Thievery Corporation Mix)" was remixed by the Washington, D.C. duo, with additional keyboards by Wayne Wilentz; "Train Wreck (Sly & Robbie Mix)" was remixed by the reggae masters for Z Management; and "Answer (Talvin Singh Mix)" was remixed by the classically trained musician and electronica innovator who founded the Anokha club-night phenom in London a decade ago.
The tenth track on BLOOM is "Just Like Me (DMC featuring Sarah McLachlan) (will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas Mix)," produced by Professor Funk and Sarah's husband Ashwin Sood, in which Harry Chapin's classic "Cat's In the Cradle" goes head-to-head with the imagination of Run-DMC's co-founder Darryl McDaniels and his new partner.
Sarah is still basking in the Afterglow of her Grammy Award-nominated, RIAA double-platinum 7th album, produced by Pierre Marchand, and released November 2003 with more than 4 million copies sold worldwide to date. Its follow-up release 12 months later, the 2-disc DVD/CD Afterglow Live (a chronicle of Sarah's summer 2004 tour, her first tour in more than 5 years) briskly passed the double-platinum mark for music DVDs earlier this year.
Most recently on June 12th in her hometown of Vancouver, Sarah concluded her 2-month "Afterglow Live 2005" spring tour of Australia, New Zealand, the U.S. and Canada. She then traveled to the Museum Of Art in Philadelphia on July 2nd, to perform as part of the North American lineup at "Live 8: The Long Walk To Justice." The once-in-a-lifetime all-star event, organized by Sir Bob Geldof on the 20th anniversary of the "Live Aid" concerts, presented concerts in London, Edinburgh, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Toronto, Tokyo, Johannes burg, Moscow, and Philadelphia on the eve of the international G8 Summit in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In addition, Sarah did her fair share for those in need worldwide when she arranged for the production costs of her most recent video, "World On Fire," to benefit 11 charities around the globe. Acclaimed video director Sophie Muller (with whom Sarah has worked since 1999) and her production crew donated their time and skill so that nearly $150,000 could be distributed to Action Aid, CARE USA, Carolina For Kibera, Comic Relief, DORCAS, Engineers Without Borders, Film Aid, Heifer International, Help The Aged, ITDG, and War Child.
