Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman `Desperate' to Join in the Fight Against Breast Cancer
Duo to Appear as Entertainment Industry Foundation Ambassadors for Public Service Announcement to Promote QVC Presents `FFANY Shoes on Sale' Fundraiser
WEST CHESTER, Pa., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Stars of ABC's "Desperate Housewives" Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman have joined the fight against breast cancer as the stars of new public service announcements to promote the annual QVC Presents "FFANY Shoes on Sale" gala philanthropic event.
Cross and Huffman serve as Entertainment Industry Foundation ambassadors and will appear in both print and television public service announcements supporting the 12th annual QVC Presents "FFANY Shoes on Sale" gala event airing live on electronic retailer QVC - Wednesday, October 26, 2005 from 7 PM - 10 PM (ET).
Event sponsors QVC and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) will offer more than 100,000 pairs of shoes at half the suggested retail price, with all net proceeds from the program going to leading breast cancer research and education institutions.
Over the past decade, QVC Presents "FFANY Shoes on Sale" has sold over one million pairs of shoes and has raised nearly $20 million for the cause. 2005 beneficiaries include the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania; the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center's Breast Oncology Program; the Entertainment Industry Foundation's Women's Cancer Research Fund; the Gillette Center for Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber Institute; the Breast Cancer Research Foundation; the Siteman Cancer Center at Washington University and the Joyce Eisenberg Keefer Breast Cancer Center at John Wayne Cancer Institute.
"I was honored to be an Entertainment Industry Foundation ambassador and support this event and this cause," said Cross. "Breast cancer and other women's cancers claim far too many lives. QVC's broadcast is a great way to raise funds for better ways to detect cancer earlier, when it may be cured."
Huffman added, "I said 'yes' immediately when asked by the Entertainment Industry Foundation to help support this cause and the fundraising event hosted by QVC and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York. I hope my efforts contribute to bringing better ways to detect and treat this disease much closer to a reality."
"We are very excited that both Marcia and Felicity were able to dedicate their time and efforts for this very important campaign with the Entertainment Industry Foundation and the Fashion Footwear Charitable Foundation," said Darlene Daggett, QVC president of U.S. Commerce. "We believe that their support will help to increase awareness about breast cancer and how the public can contribute to help eradicate the disease."
Cross and Huffman join other celebrities who served as Entertainment Industry Foundation ambassadors and previously supported EIF's Women's Cancer Research Fund, including: Mischa Barton, Kristin Davis, Angela Bassett and Candice Bergen.
