Encore Wam Premieres Winning Entry From the 'Teen Video Contest: Superheroes' as a Part of Their 'Night of Heroes'

Colorado Teen Wins Grand Prize

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Encore Wam will celebrate the premiere of the winning entry in their "Encore Wam Teen Video Contest: Superheroes" as a part of their "Night of Heroes." Seventeen year-old Adam Witt of Centennial, Colo. was named the grand prize winner with his short film "So You Want to Be a Superhero?" The film will debut on Friday, August 5th at 7:45 p.m. (ET/PT) and then again at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT), as a part of an evening of super-powered programming. The "Night of Heroes" features the movies "Hellboy" and "Steel," both based on comic book heroes, plus a behind-the-scenes look at the recent Comic-Con convention in San Diego, Calif.

Adam, a high school senior, discovered his inner-superhero with the assistance of his fifteen year-old brother, Nathan Witt. Together they brought the script that Nathan wrote to life by enlisting a group of friends to act, shooting the film together, and acting as co-producers. Adam edited and submitted the final project. In addition to having the film appear across the nation on Encore Wam, Adam received a Panasonic mini DV camcorder (model AG-DVX100A), unidirectional microphone, wide angle lens, carrying case, two-section tripod and A/C adapter/charger.

"When they called me and said that I won the contest I was totally blown away," said Adam. "I want to be a filmmaker someday and jumped at the chance to enter Encore Wam's contest, but I never thought I would win it! My brother Nathan and I are already working on our next movie and can't wait for the debut of 'So You Want to Be a Superhero?' on national television."

"We were extremely pleased with the caliber of entries received," said Midge Pierce, vice president of Encore Wam programming. "We look forward to sharing the winning entry with our audiences and hope to share some of the other entries at a later date."

Encore Wam's "Night of Heroes" is as follows (all times are ET/PT):

* 7:45 p.m. -- Premiere of "So You Want to Be a Superhero?" plus a behind-the-scenes look at the recent Comic-Con convention. * 8:00 p.m. -- "Hellboy" -- Born in the flames of hell, and brought to our world in a pagan ritual, the fierce red hero, Hellboy (Ron Perlman), was saved from Nazi soldiers and raised in America to become a cigar-smoking, kitten-loving secret weapon fighting supernatural evils. The film co-stars John Hurt and Selma Blair. * 10:00 p.m. -- "So You Want to Be a Superhero?" plus another behind-the-scenes look at the recent Comic-Con convention. * 10:15 p.m. -- "Steel" -- Former Army scientists, one in a steel suit (Shaquille O'Neal), team up in Los Angeles against another who turned bad. The film co-stars Annabeth Gish, Judd Nelson and Richard Roundtree.

The "Encore Wam Teen Video Contest: Superheroes" ran from November 27, 2004 through May 13, 2005, and called for students between the ages of 13 and 18 to submit a film or video representing their completely original and unique idea of a superhero -- real or imagined. Eighteen year-old Daniel Roath of Millers Creek, N.C. and eighteen year-old Paul Jones of Aurora, Colo. were named as the first prize winners.
