DSO's 'Salute to America' Concerts at Greenfield Village Are Ready to Roll!

New Features Include Flyover by B-17 Bomber, Appearance by Selfridge Joint Color Guard and Pie-Eating Contest

National Anthem Contest Winners Rehearse on Friday, July 1 at 11 a.m.

WHAT: The 13th annual DSO "Salute to America" concerts at Greenfield Village celebrate Independence Day once again with great patriotic music and magnificent fireworks! Highlights this year include:

-- Presentation of the Colors by the Selfridge Joint Color Guard -- "The National Anthem" sung by the winners of the DSO's "Star Spangled Singing Contest" -- A flyover by the Yankee Airforce Museum's B-17 bomber, the "Flying Fortress" (on July 4 only) -- The first-ever "Salute to America Pie-Eating Contest" featuring pies from Baker's Square in Dearborn -- A "Patriotic Costume Contest" which awards prizes to the family or group decked out in the most patriotic attire -- Local singer Lewis Dahle von Schlanbusch sings "God Bless America" and "God Bless the USA"

REHEARSAL: (Open to Media! Park behind the Eagle Tavern) Friday, July 1 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Greenfield Village, in the "Walnut Grove Historic District." Anthem singers begin rehearsing at approximately 11 a.m.

WHO: The DSO and the Motor City Brass Band, rehearse "Salute to America" program. Winners of the DSO's "Star Spangled Singing Contest" Ashley Rose Perry, 16, of Southfield Tiffany Vrabel, 13, of Taylor Eugene Seay (pr. "SEE"), 14, of Waterford

CONCERTS: "Salute to America" with the DSO, led by Resident Conductor Thomas Wilkins Fri. through Mon., July 1 - 4 at 8:30 p.m. each night

Doors open at 6 p.m., Prelude concert with Motor City Brass Band at 7:30 p.m.

DSO concert at 8:30 p.m. Fireworks start at approximately 10:15 p.m.

TICKETS: Advance tickets -- $22.50 for adults and $14 for children ages 5 to 12. Children ages 4 and under are free. Tickets at the door -- $27 for adults and $17.50 for children.
