MTV And VH1 Talent Available to Discuss Historical & Musical Relevance of 'Live 8' Telecasts
NEW YORK, June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of an unprecedented global music initiative for MTV Networks, MTV, VH1 and MTV's college network mtvU will share a feed for the first time ever, airing customized programming from the Live 8 concerts being held around the world on Saturday, July 2, to raise awareness on the issues of extreme poverty. Twenty years ago, MTV aired the Live Aid concerts for 17 hours straight ... and in 2005, MTV and VH1 are joining forces to help spread this important message around the world.
In the U.S., the sister networks will provide exclusive LIVE television coverage from every corner of the world on that day from 12 - 8 pm ET/9 am - 5 pm PT, including interviews with participating artists and fans on-site and produced packages on everything from the original 1985 Live Aid concert to the upcoming G8 summit. MTV Networks' music channels around the world will also air hourly bulletins featuring news and highlights from the concerts. Outside the U.S., MTV Networks' music channels MTV, VH1 and TMF (The Music Factory) around the world will also air hourly bulletins featuring performances, news and highlights from the concerts. MTV base, MTV Networks' new channel in Africa, will air a 4-hour highlight show including clips from the Johannesburg, London and Philadelphia events, as well as performances from the Africa Calling concert in Cornwall (UK). Other international channels airing extended coverage of the concerts include MTV Russia (5 1/2 hours), VH1 India (10 hours) and MTV Brazil (12 hours).
Top executives from MTV and VH1 are available now in New York and London, and on site in Philadelphia and London on July 2, to discuss the historical relevance of Live 8, what fans can expect from the star-studded concerts, and the impact that the event could have on the G8 summit -- and the fight against poverty.
