Kohl's Launches Search for Milwaukee's First Teen Rockstar

Auditions to run June 9-26, 2005, at Milwaukee-Area Kohl's Stores

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Kohl's Department Stores, in partnership with WKTI-FM, Rockstar Productions and Summerfest, announced today a contest that gives Milwaukee-area teens something to sing about. The Kohl's Summerfest Rockstar Project provides local teens with an opportunity to showcase their vocal talents and the chance to win $10,000 of professional studio time to record their own CD and a performance at Summerfest 2005.

Today through June 26, 2005, Kohl's Summerfest Rockstar Project auditions will be conducted at select Milwaukee-area Kohl's stores (see list below for dates, times and locations). Teens ages 13-17 are invited to show their 'Rockstar' potential by singing a song of their choice a cappella. Every teen who auditions will automatically receive a Kohl's Summerfest Rockstar Project T-shirt, one free Summerfest ticket and a special gift from Kohl's.

"As summer kicks off, Kohl's wants to give teens a chance to put their energy to good use and the opportunity to realize their dream of becoming a rock star," said Kohl's senior vice president of marketing, Julie Gardner. "Kids think of Kohl's as a place to shop for back-to-school. We're excited to deliver a program that also makes our stores a summertime, 'out-of-school' destination."

From the pool of contestants, 10 talented finalists will be selected for the exclusive opportunity to perform live at Summerfest -- the World's Largest Music Festival -- in a final audition. In addition to competing for the chance to win a grand prize of $10,000 of professional studio time to record a CD, each finalist will receive a Kohl's Back-to-School Fashion Makeover, Kohl's gift cards worth $100 and four free Summerfest tickets.

The final audition will take place live at the Potawatomie Stage at Summerfest on July 10, 2005. Finalists will be judged by a panel of local celebrities and the grand prize winner will be announced immediately on July 10, 2005.

Because space is limited, kids will be admitted for auditions on a first come, first serve basis. It is important to note that parents or legal guardians of every auditioning teen must fill out and sign a registration form and publicity waiver. Also, parents with kids under the age of 16 must be present in order for their child to audition. Eligible teens can audition for the Kohl's Summerfest Rockstar Project at select Kohl's store locations on the following dates. All auditions will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
