Joe Boyle Joins PK Network as Managing Director
NEW YORK, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Cable industry veteran Joe Boyle has joined PK Network, a New York-based full-service marketing and communications agency, as Managing Director to lead the public relations unit and contribute strategic direction to marketing and advertising accounts. The announcement was made today by Pat Kehoe, president of PK Network.
As Managing Director, Boyle will be responsible for overseeing public relations, new business and providing strategic direction on all PK accounts.
Prior to PK, Boyle was a consultant for a number of NY-based media companies including PK Network and TNS Media, following eight years at iN DEMAND Networks where he was Vice President of Corporate Communications, having joined the company in 1996 when it was Viewer's Choice.
"Joe is a dynamic PR and promotional executive whose creative marketing flair and proven track record in the sale and marketing of media companies, media products and sports and entertainment will have a big pay-off for our clients," Kehoe said. "Over the years he has successfully promoted new businesses such as VOD and HD, breathed new life into mature products and delivered results in high-pressure environments."
At iN DEMAND, Boyle was responsible for publicity, corporate communications and industry relations. He was involved in the rebranding and reorganization of Viewer's Choice to iN DEMAND, the rollout of the company's video-on-demand platform, and the launch of two high definition television channels. He co-developed branding and PR strategies for cable's launch of VOD and HDTV as well as branding and PR strategies for the launch of digital sports packages from the NBA, NHL, MLB and NASCAR IN CAR, which was awarded an Interactive Television Emmy and a Sports Emmy. He also was involved in the development of a highly successful cable industry national publicity campaign to raise awareness of VOD on Cable.
Prior to joining Viewer's Choice/iN DEMAND, Boyle was a Vice President at Starz Entertainment Group, having served on the original start-up team of Encore Media Corp. He was responsible for affiliate relations and communications for nine Encore/Starz 24-hour movie networks. He jointly developed the thematic distribution and communications strategy and was responsible for Encore's first non-owner cable system launches with Comcast and Time Warner.
Prior to that he was Editor and Publisher of Multichannel News, having joined the start-up team as bureau chief in Los Angeles in 1981, rising to national editor two years later and leaving the publication for three years before returning as Editor and Publisher in 1988. In that role, he was responsible for a total redesign of the publication, moved the headquarters to New York from Denver, introduced the editorial and op-ed page, and expanded technical and financial news coverage.
In 1986, he was named Vice President of Communications for the SBCA where he was involved in marketing communications and PR for the satellite industry's leading trade association. Boyle is credited for his role in recruiting programmers such as HBO and Showtime to the association, and for his part in creating the industry's first national campaign to drive the growth of satellite dishes.
He joined Showtime Networks a year later as head of trade public relations, promoting Showtime, The Movie Channel and Viewer's Choice, Showtime's newly created unit involved in the distribution of pay-per-view movies, sports and events. Boyle spent two years at Showtime before returning to Multichannel News as editor and publisher.
He has a BA in journalism from the University of Southern California and an MBA in Executive Management from Baruch College, City University of New York.
