Game Show Award Winners Include Vieira, Keoghan, Boosler and Jennings
TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, N.M., June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Despite losing to Brad Rutter in the final round of the "Jeopardy! Ultimate Tournament of Champions," pop icon Ken Jennings hung on to win the title of "Game Show Contestant of the Year" in voting for the 2005 Game Show Congress Awards.
The Game Show Congress will hold its fourth annual convention at the Hilton Los Angeles North/Glendale & Executive Meeting Center, August 19-21, 2005. Game show legends Tom Kennedy and Jack Narz (who are brothers) will be there to share this year's Bill Cullen Career Achievement Award. Also scheduled to attend is "Let's Make a Deal" host Monty Hall, recipient of the Ralph Edwards Career Community Service Award. Rutter also won an award, for "Best Contestant on a Traditional Game Show." Other awards that went to "Jeopardy!" were "Game Show of the Year" and "Best Traditional Game Show"; "Game Show Producer of the Year," Harry Friedman; and "The Consolation Prize," given for the most heartbreaking loss on a game show. It went to Matt Ottinger, one of the victims of the Jennings juggernaut.
Meredith Vieira followed up her recent Emmy win with victories as both "Best Host of a Traditional Game Show" and "Game Show Host of the Year."
"The Amazing Race" was named "Best Game Opera," an award given to a "reality TV"-style competition. Its host, Phil Keoghan, won "Best Host of a Game Opera." Husband and wife Uchenna and Joyce Agu, winners of "Amazing Race 7," won "Best Contestant or Team on a Game Opera."
"Best New Game Show" went to ESPN's "Stump the Schwab," a sports trivia quiz show. Elayne Boosler, host of PAX's "Balderdash," was "Best Host of a New Game Show."
