Romano Toots Tune-in to June 25th QVC Debut of philosophy's Laughing Gas Benefiting EIF's National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance
WEST CHESTER, Pa., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Ray Romano introduces a new kind of Laughing Gas, a delicious-smelling bathroom spray created by philosophy, in a public service announcement airing on 700 cable affiliates. But the comedian's promotional efforts are no laughing matter - the QVC/philosophy fundraising campaign will benefit the Entertainment Industry Foundation's National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance (EIF's NCCRA).
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death for women and men in the U.S. That's why QVC and philosophy are donating 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of 20,000 units of Laughing Gas to EIF's NCCRA, helping fund its educational efforts about the importance of medical screening for those 50 and over and other at-risk individuals. Money raised will also support cutting-edge research to develop better tests, treatments and, ultimately, a cure for colorectal cancer.
In the public service announcement, Romano uses his lighthearted wit to promote the sale of philosophy's Laughing Gas product during a special QVC launch on June 25 at 9:30 AM (ET). Also on that date, NCCRA co-founder Katie Couric will make a live appearance with philosophy's Founder and CEO, Cristina Carlino, on QVC to talk about the need for greater awareness about colorectal cancer, especially among women, who often underestimate their risk for the disease.
"A bout of laughter is healthy, but when it comes to colon cancer, early detection is the best medicine," said Romano. "If a little humor helps people talk about a potentially embarrassing subject, then I'm happy to lend my voice."
"My belief is that philosophy can change more than skin, we can change lives," said Carlino. "But we can't do it alone. Teaming up with great partners like QVC and the Entertainment Industry Foundation, we are supporting some of the most promising medical research in the country."
"QVC is committed to supporting philanthropic causes that affect our customers and their loved ones. We are so grateful to Ray Romano for dedicating his time and efforts to help us generate funds for EIF's NCCRA through the sales of philosophy's Laughing Gas," said Holly Rutkowski, QVC vice president of Information Services, the division that oversees the company's philanthropic contributions. "Ray's humor and heartfelt appeal will undoubtedly attract a significant number of viewers, and help further the remarkable work of the Entertainment Industry Foundation."
Laughing Gas will be available through QVC at 800.345.1515 or http://www.qvc.com/ beginning June 25 while quantities remain.

About EIF's NCCRA
EIF's NCCRA is dedicated to the eradication of colon cancer by promoting education about the importance of early medical screening and funding cutting-edge research to develop better tests, treatments and, ultimately, a cure. The NCCRA was co-founded by journalist Katie Couric, cancer activist Lilly Tartikoff, and the Entertainment Industry Foundation. As a result of the attention EIF's NCCRA and NBC's TODAY show have focused on colorectal cancer, the number of colonoscopy screenings has increased almost 20% since March 2000. Researchers at the University of Michigan have dubbed this the "Couric Effect." For more information, visit http://www.eif.nccra.org/.
