WASHINGTON, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Americans for Prosperity Foundation today announced that it is organizing a youth protest against the liberal group Rock the Vote that will be held outside the Rock the Vote Awards Dinner on June 8 at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.
The Americans for Prosperity Foundation says it is organizing the protest in light of Rock the Vote's decision to aggressively oppose proposals to give younger workers the ability to invest a portion of their Social Security taxes in higher-yielding personal retirement accounts.
Personal accounts would allow millions of younger workers to have part of their Social Security taxes automatically invested in secure, diversified bond funds and stock funds, similar to what many workers already do with 401(k) plans and Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). These funds would almost certainly grow in value more quickly than money in the current Social Security system does, yet Rock the Vote opposes the effort to give young people more freedom over their own money.
"After lamely posing for years as a supposedly non-partisan and non- ideological group, Rock the Vote finally dropped the fig leaf this year when it came out against all Social Security reform proposals to allow young people to have more control over their own money," said Americans for Prosperity Foundation spokesman Ed Frank. "The young people at next week's protest are going to make it clear that Rock the Vote is completely hypocritical when it comes to representing the interests of America's youth."
The Americans for Prosperity Foundation protest will begin at 5:30 p.m. outside the National Building Museum, which is located at 401 F St., NW, near the Judiciary Square Metro station.
