Mark Hyman to Discuss the Newspaper Guild's Allegation Against the U.S. Military

BALTIMORE, May 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:SBGI) announced that commentator Mark Hyman will appear on the FOX Cable News program, "The O'Reilly Factor," tonight where he will discuss his commentary calling for the resignation of Linda Foley, President of the Newspaper Guild of America (NGOA). Jennifer Gladstone of Sinclair's NewsCentral provided an exclusive report on Wednesday of the NGOA's allegation that the U.S. military has been targeting journalists in Iraq - a charge that the U.S. military emphatically denies.

In an echo of the recent controversy that led to the resignation of CNN's former chief news executive, Eason Jordan, over remarks made during a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, NGOA President Linda Foley, at a conference last week to discuss media ownership in St. Louis, said, "They (the U.S. military) target and kill journalists from other countries, particularly Arab countries like Al Jazeera, for example. They actually target them and blow up their studios with impunity." Ms. Foley further expressed outrage over the brutality and the cavalier nature of the U.S. military toward the killing of journalists in Iraq.

Asked to support her allegation, Ms. Foley declined to comment.

In response to the allegation, Lt. Colonel Barry Venable of the U.S. Department of Defense stated, "We take rigorous measures to avoid non- combatant causalities and collateral damage. We do not deliberately target non-combatants, including journalists. The military is still looking into the deaths of a Reuters freelancer by the name of Dia Najim and a journalist named Khadim from Al Araqiya."

This most recent exclusive from Wednesday night's story was just the latest for NewsCentral, which also broke the national story on street gang MS 13 and their association with international terrorists in February with follow-up reports in March. "The Point," a daily commentary by Mark Hyman and aired on Sinclair's news stations, has been awarded three Telly Awards for excellence. All three awards were for commentaries that were part of the 2003 series, "The Point Goes To Iraq."
