ZiLOG(R) Launches FREE Remote Control Development Software Suite

ZiLOG(R) Launches FREE Remote Control Development Software Suite

New Crimzon RC Express(TM) Offers Universal Infrared Remote Development Environment and Access to ZiLOG's 500,000+ IR Code Database, Enhances Speed and Ease of Design for Customers

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ZiLOG(R), Inc. (NASDAQ:ZILG), a leading provider of integrated 8-bit microcontroller (MCU) and universal remote control solutions, today announced the launch of Crimzon RC Express(TM), a new configurable and scalable universal infrared remote (UIR) application designed to be used in conjunction with ZiLOG's Crimzon(TM) Emulator kit. Together, they provide customers with a complete software development environment for developing UIR control units for numerous brands and models of devices including TV sets, VCR and DVD players and recorders, satellite, cable and set top boxes, and audio units.

Available immediately free of charge to qualified users, the Crimzon RC Express works with ZiLOG's ZLP32300 family of OTP-based infrared microcontrollers and can be developed and customized using the Crimzon(TM) ZLP323ICE01ZEM In-Circuit Emulator Development Kit. Using Crimzon RC Express opens up ZiLOG's industry-leading IR database, which contains more than 500,000 codes, to all customers.

A universal remote control can offer a number of features, from programming the remote for a particular brand to locking a remote key to a particular device. These features can easily be scaled by setting the parameters in the Crimzon RC Express configuration. For example, the user can configure the duration of the blinking of the remote's indicator Light Emitting Diode (LED) as well as the duration that an IR signal is sent while a key remains pressed. The remote's database is scalable for a number of devices, each of which can be added or removed from the database.

Through an application program interface (API), which allows programmers to write applications consistent with the operating environment, the Crimzon RC Express hides the complexities of IR transmission from the developer. The Crimzon RC Express software package provides source code for a remote control application based on the API together with a standard remote control database library for a 6-in-1 device. The source code application can be used as is, or can be modified if necessary by the customer with their own specific code. The source code, when linked with an accompanying object file and compiled, provides a fully-functional remote control that can then be burned onto ZLP32300 devices via the Emulator. The programmed chip can then be tested immediately on ZiLOG's proprietary Crimzon Development Platform Board.

"The Crimzon RC Express gives our customers the opportunity to utilize our comprehensive IR database, which contains in excess of half a million code sets," said ZiLOG executive vice president of sales and marketing, Ramesh Ramchandani. "Access to this resource allows the customer to bolt their own customized application code and user interface code to our database. This gives the customer the best of both worlds -- an opportunity to use their own IP for user interface, which differentiates their product from others and a chance to use ZiLOG's database, which is the foremost in the industry. Crimzon RC Express will also enable ZiLOG to service more customer projects and provide a much higher level of service to a wider range of customers. and will greatly enhance the speed and ease at which customers can complete their designs."
