Verizon Online and Movielink Offer Co-Branded Movie Download Service to Verizon Broadband Subscribers
Verizon Customers to Receive Exclusive Promotions and Discounts; Movies Can Be Downloaded and Viewed Anywhere
NEW YORK and SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Movielink and Verizon announced today the launch of a co-branded movie downloading service for Verizon Online's consumer broadband subscribers. Verizon Online's consumer DSL and FiOS Internet Service customers can now purchase and download movies to watch at home or on-the-go through this special agreement with Movielink.
The new service offers a full library of titles, including a special selection of hit films for 99 cents or less from Movielink, the first broadband video-on-demand (VOD) service to offer hundreds of major motion pictures for legitimate download. A broadband connection is required to download the movie, but once it's on their hard drive, users can view it at any time from home or on the road without being connected.
"Our new movie rental service helps our broadband customers get even more out of their high-speed connection," said Eric Cevis, vice president -- business and channel development for Verizon's Retail Markets Group. "Entertainment is one of the hottest categories of broadband applications, and Verizon customers can count on us to deliver the latest and most sought-after services. With top content from Movielink and the speed of Verizon's broadband networks, customers enjoy the flexibility and convenience of accessing affordable entertainment in ways they want to receive it."
Jim Ramo, CEO of Movielink, said, "Providing differentiated offerings that are tailored to the needs of our partners is one of Movielink's core strengths. Verizon has a clear vision for using premium content to add value to its consumer offerings, so this is a natural fit."
Verizon customers can purchase and download licensed movies offered by Movielink and store them on their hard drives for up to 30 days. Through their Verizon broadband connection and Movielink's Movie in Minutes(TM) feature, customers can watch movies minutes after beginning the download. After initiating play, they can watch a movie as many times as they like in a 24- hour period on a PC, a television connected to the PC, or a laptop computer. Movies are delivered through Verizon's network, resulting in optimum viewing quality. Thirty days after downloading, movie files are automatically deleted, meaning no more trips to the video store to return rentals.
Verizon's new co-branded service with Movielink is the latest in a series of licensed content offerings ranging from online music services to games. The company continues to educate its customers about the risks of illegal downloading and encourages them to enjoy legal alternatives such as Movielink, which provide high-speed access to online entertainment at reasonable prices.
