Quantum Unveils Data Tape Technology for IT-Based Broadcast and Professional Video Environments
Preview Demonstration of SDLT 600A with DLTxchange(TM) Shows MXF Interoperability, Flexible Deployment and Archive Security
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Quantum Corp. (NYSE:DSS), a global leader in storage, today unveiled a technology preview of a new data tape drive and media -- SDLT 600A and Super DLTtape(TM) IIA, respectively -- specifically developed to meet the distinctive requirements of broadcast and professional video IT-based workflows.
SDLT 600A drives with DLTxchange are enhanced versions of Quantum's long-established and well-accepted DLT(R) Technology. Based upon DLT Technology's highly successful data storage track record among Fortune 500 companies, the new SDLT 600A delivers backup, sharing and archiving of High Definition (HD), Standard Definition (SD) and other data assets on cost-effective, durable data tape.
Further enhancements are delivered with Quantum's DLTxchange technology which makes these drives "MXF aware"(1). DLTxchange provides fast access to MXF metadata and enables retrieval of sub-clips by timecode. The network connectivity provided by SDLT 600A in combination with the MXF enhancements of DLTxchange makes the drive highly interoperable and enables the exchange of HD and SD video assets among professional video applications and systems.
"Quantum understands the need for a data tape storage solution which is well suited to meet the requirements of the professional video industry," said Phil Ritti, VP & general manager of Quantum's Storage Media Business Unit. "The SDLT 600A with DLTxchange technology delivers interoperability with MXF and offers the capacity and performance needed for HD while affording seamless compatibility to support today's IT-based workflows."
SDLT 600A with DLTxchange technology is:
-- Easy to Deploy: The SDLT 600A drive is network-attached using a Gigabit Ethernet interface and built-in FTP server, making it readily visible throughout a network. The drive can be used in a stand-alone configuration or integrated into the full range of small-to-large automated tape libraries.
-- Flexible: The SDLT 600A drive incorporates a directly accessible file system, making any cartridge readable anywhere, anytime. This allows Super DLTtape IIA cartridges to be freely moved between libraries, stand-alone drives and even video facilities.
-- Secure: Super DLTtape IIA cartridges have an expected 30-year archive life to ensure the longevity of important business assets.
-- High Performing: At a native transfer rate of 36 MB/s, SDLT 600A tape drives transfer video assets many times faster than real-time, even in HD. At a native capacity of 300 GB per tape, a single tape can accommodate over six hours of 100 Mb/s HD content.
-- Cost-Effective: Built on Quantum's industry-leading DLT platform, the SDLT 600A data tape drives benefit from significant economies of scale. The SDLT 600A is lower in cost than professional video tape recorders (VTRs) and is highly reliable.
SDLT 600A with DLTxchange technology will be previewed at NAB 2005 in the following booths:
-- Fujinon/Fujifilm Inc. SU6370 -- Masstech Group Inc. SU10236 -- Snell & Wilcox Ltd. SU6349
