Inga Akins, Mother of Five-Year-Old Whose Behavior Made International News This Week Responds to Parenting Issues

NEW YORK, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Five-year-old Ja'eisha Scott (Akins) speaks out about the day she was arrested by three officers from the St. Petersburg Police department in a first-ever, in-depth interview on "A Current Affair" Thursday, April 28 (syndicated, check local listings for station and time). The following are excerpts from this first-ever interview.

With the child's mother and a child psychologist on hand, "A Current Affair" correspondent Harris Faulkner talks to five-year-old Ja'eisha about the video that captured her behavior on tape and that has now been seen on television outlets worldwide.

"I want to see what I did in class [as she points to the video] ... ," says Ja'eisha. " ... You want to start [the video] when other kids was in there [the classroom] ... I was cleaning it [the mess] up first ... "

Q: Why didn't you go [to Miss Gutman's class where all the other kids went]?

J: I was so bad.

Q: What did you do?

J: I didn't play the jellybean game, but I did and she [the teacher] snatched it from me so I had to sit over there by myself ...

Q: Well that doesn't sound very bad.

J: Yeah. But I had to sit at my table and do stuff.

Q: You tore up the office. Why?

J: Because I didn't like Miss D and I wanted to get out of that school ... Look! That's when I did that [pointing to the video that has been featured this week in major news outlets both domestically and internationally]. That was on the news. That was during this.

Q: What were you doing? Were you gonna hit her [the principal]?

J: Yeah.

Q: Why would you hit somebody like that?

J: Because she won't leave me alone and stay away from me.

Q: At one point you climbed up on the table.

J: mmh hmm. But I'm going to climb on the table again.

Q: It looks like you are just trying to get away from her. Oh wait, now you are on the table. You don't say anything the entire time.

J: I keep on saying no.

Q: What did you think about that?

J: Now the police are going to come [pointing to the video] ... Yeah, Look! I am looking straight at them.

Q: Were you scared?

J: Yeah. Look there go Officer Williams! You could turn it up to see what they are saying to me.

Q: You are crying really hard there. Ja'eisha what is happening there?

J: They took me to the officer car.

Q: Did they have handcuffs on your feet too?

J: Yep.

Q: You couldn't get away?

J: I couldn't get out the car because they had handcuffs on my hands.

Q: On your hands and your feet?

J: Hmm ... Hmm [up and down] nod

Q: Have you ever acted like that before?

J: Hmm [up and down] nod

Q: Why did you get so angry?

J: Because Officer Williams and Miss Dee wouldn't stay away from me ...

Q: When the police came, did they tell you to calm down?

J: Yea, he said right now ... and they said sit up ... then they put the handcuffs on me ... they had me sit on the table ...

Q: Tell me this, when they put you in the police car, how did they do that? Did they pick you up and put you in? Or did you climb into the car?

J: They had to walk me in.

Q: To the car?

J: Yea. But I didn't go to jail.
