Hollywood, Design Leaders Attending Academy of Art University Fashion Show and Industry Reception Thursday to Celebrate L.A. Fashion Week
LOS ANGELES, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Hollywood, automotive and graphic design industry leaders from Columbia Pictures, Mercedes-Benz and Nickelodeon will attend the Academy of Art University's runway fashion show and industry reception for art, design, film and fashion professionals tomorrow, Thursday, March 17, 7-9 p.m., at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, CA. The reception is part of the Los Angeles Fashion Week celebration, March 14-22.
The San Francisco-based Academy (http://www.academyart.edu/), the nation's largest, private, accredited art and design school, will host the event for Los Angeles area art, design, film and fashion professionals and alumni and exhibit extraordinary examples of work from its top-notch students and recent alumni.
"The breadth and caliber of the attendees is strong testimony to the Academy's great reputation in the motion pictures, industrial design and fashion sectors," said Dr. Elisa Stephens, President of the Academy of Art University.
"Academy of Art University students have gone on to work for many of the biggest names in every industry for which we provide education," said Diane Baker, a Hollywood actress ("ER," "The Diary of Ann Frank," "Silence of the Lambs") and Director of Acting at the Academy's School of Motion Pictures and Television. Ms. Baker started the Academy's School of Acting in 2004.
Numerous graduates from the Academy's schools of Illustration, Animation and Visual Effects, and Motion Pictures and Television have worked for industry giants, such as DreamWorks, Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), while the School of Industrial Design has sent many designers to virtually every major car company. The School of Fashion is known for its cutting edge designs and incorporating sustainable fibers into its courses and runway fashions. Many of its graduates have worked for top fashion designers, including Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen and John Galliano, to name a few.
On Saturday, March 19, the Academy also will host an "Academy Day" for prospective high school and college students, so they can meet one-on-one with department directors, get their portfolios reviewed, and gather information regarding admissions, financial aid, housing, campus activities, scholarships, and high school programs. Reservations are required to attend the Academy Day. Call 1.800.544.ARTS (2787) or register online at http://www.academyart.edu/academyday/lax_rsvp.asp.
