RCN Increases Cable Modem Speed to 10 mbps, Offers Fastest Residential Cable Modem on the Market MegaModem Mach 10 Allows Customers Faster Access to More Services, Including Newly Launched RCN interACTION Music PRINCETON, N.J., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RCN Corporation (BULLETIN BOARD: RCNI) announced today it will upgrade its cable modem service to 10 megabits per second, the fastest residential speed available. RCN will launch MegaModem Mach 10(SM) across all markets by February 28, 2004. This is the third time in the past 18 months RCN has rewarded its customers by automatically upgrading their modem speeds at no additional cost. Customers with MegaModem Mach 7(SM), RCN's 7 mbps service, will be automatically upgraded to MegaModem Mach 10. Customers with MegaModem Mach 5, RCN's 5 mbps service, will be automatically upgraded to MegaModem Mach 7 for free. MegaModem Mach 10 is more than twice as fast as other cable modem services and more than six times faster than the leading DSL services. Entire albums can be downloaded or saved to an MP3 player for just $9.99. In addition, customers will be able to watch their favorite music video as part of their subscription service. Music downloads will be conveniently charged to the customers' RCN bill, freeing them from having to share their credit card information with other services or receive multiple bills at their homes.
