First 2005 IronPlanet Sale Draws 51 Bidders on Dump Truck
First 2005 IronPlanet Sale Draws 51 Bidders on Dump Truck PLEASANTON, Calif., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- IronPlanet (www.ironplanet.com), the third-largest construction equipment auction company in North America, sold $3 million of equipment and trucks in the company's first auction of 2005. Fifty-one bidders fought over a 1996 Kenworth W 900B Dump Truck that sold for $37,000. "In all of my auction experience, I'm not sure I have ever seen fifty-one hands raised or heads nod for one truck at a physical auction," says Mike Rich, vice-president of sales. "Not even at a Florida sale in February." The January 13 sale drew over 9,700 registered auction attendees with bidders from the US and 13 other countries. On average, an item sold to a buyer more than 800 miles from its selling location, with 86% of the equipment going to an out-of-state buyer. Founded in 1999, IronPlanet has grown to be one of the biggest auction companies of used construction equipment and trucks. Backed by Caterpillar, Komatsu, and Volvo, the company sells equipment through online auctions. IronPlanet is the only auction company to provide detailed, guaranteed inspection reports for used equipment in its auction.
