AVEVA Signs Technical Alliance with Z+F UK Limited

AVEVA Signs Technical Alliance with Z+F UK Limited Last 'Top Five' Alliance Completes First Phase of AVEVA's Strategy for Capturing and Using Physical Data - AVEVA to Demonstrate New Technology at DaratechPLANT 2005 HOUSTON, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- DaratechPLANT2005 -- AVEVA Group plc , a leading supplier of plant design and engineering lifecycle solutions for the process, energy and marine industries, has signed a technical alliance with Z+F UK Limited, providers of 3D laser scanning products and services. AVEVA has now formed alliances with the five market-leading 3D laser scanning vendors, also including BitWyse Solutions, Leica Geosystems HDS, MENSI, and Quantapoint. Laser scanning provides extremely fast and accurate physical plant surveys, saving huge amounts of time and vastly reducing errors in measurement and modelling. This signing completes phase one of AVEVA's strategy, providing customers with a choice of best-in-class solutions for capturing and using 'existing conditions' in revamp engineering projects. The two companies plan to jointly develop a dynamic interface between AVEVA's PDMS(R) (Plant Design Management System) and Z+F's LFM Server, a versatile 3D point server for managing massive data sets. LFM Server can provide instant and random access to over 12 billion scan points, allowing designers to obtain quick answers to difficult as-built questions. The companies will demonstrate a prototype solution at DaratechPLANT2005, showing point cloud data managed directly by LFM Server in the PDMS Design application. The demonstrator will allow a designer to visualise and reference the laser scanned point cloud data 'in-context' during 3D design using our established multi-discipline PDMS plant modelling applications. The designer may at any stage undertake 3D clash detection between the new PDMS plant objects and the LFM served existing conditions point cloud data. Any resulting clashes will be highlighted back to the designer working in PDMS. This will provide substantial benefits to our customers wishing to reference existing conditions point cloud data during detailed 3D plant modelling within PDMS. John Sanins, AVEVA's Head of Plant Design commented: "This alliance completes the first phase of AVEVA's strategy for integrating as-built data with PDMS. In the next phase, we will be opening the environment further to allow others to plug into our technology. The technology we have already developed with Z+F delivers not only the ability to view some of the most advanced laser-captured data, but to work with it and model around it with interactive clash checking. Our customers asked for this alliance and for this capability and we have delivered it." Graham Dalton, Technical Director for Z+F UK Limited commented: "In recent years, laser scanning has become a vital tool in engineering revamp projects. The dynamic link between PDMS and LFM Server means that not only can PDMS users easily review their designs against the existing conditions scan data, but also make use of the fully automated clash detection facilities of both solutions. This will greatly reduce rework costs. This is a particularly exciting time for Z+F." About Z+F UK Limited Z+F UK Limited (http://www.zf-uk.com/), based in Manchester UK, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Zoller + Frohlich GmbH Elektrotechnik, world leaders in 3-D laser scanning technology.
